Greatham (who became Greatham Mayfair Centre), Nissan and Wolviston were promoted to Division 1. Stockton EDC resigned during the season and their record was deleted. Felling Leam Lane and Winlaton Youngs Descaling left the league. Five new clubs were elected to Division 2, these being Darlington Railway Athletic, Marchon, South Shields Cleadon SC, Usworth Village and Windscale.

Hartlepool B.W.O.B. and Nissan relegated to Division 2. Dunston Federation Breweries joined the Northern League, while Coundon TT and Dawdon Colliery Welfare also left the league. Three clubs changed their names. Greatham Mayfair Centre became Hartlepool Town. NEI Bohemians became Newcastle Bohemians. Roker became Sunderland IFG Roker.

The 3 points deducted for an infringement of League rules cost Marske United the title.

Newton Aycliffe resigned after 20 games, having managed just two points from these, with a goals aggregate of 24-78. The club’s record was deleted. Hartlepool Town left to join the Northern League. Again there was no relegation.

Hartlepool United Reserves (after 4 games – 10 points) and Newcastle City (after 21 games – 5 points) resigned during the season and the clubs’ record were expunged.

Birtley Town, Brinkburn CA (renamed South Tyneside United) and SC Fulwell promoted. Guisborough Priory, Murton International, Prudhoe Swinton and Wingate left the competition. South Bank were elected to Division 2. Northallerton Town Supporters became Northallerton Ainderby.

Jarrow Roofing joined the Northern League and SC Fulwell also left the competition. There was no relegation as it was decided to discontinue the 2nd Division and to run a single league section.

Gateshead Reserves and South Tyneside United left the competition. The 2nd Division was reintroduced with the bottom two sides, Horden Athletic and South Bank, joining 11 other clubs in a 13-strong section. The clubs elected to the new Division 2 were Ferryhill Athletic, Herrington CW, New Marske United, Redcar Town, Silksworth Community, Simonside Social Club, South Shields Reserves, Sunderland Red House, Wallsend Town, Whitburn and Workington Reserves.
