Not on my radar until an offer of a lift from Splodge came about, it's a very enclosed ground with permanent dugouts and small bit of rail, permant portakabins with separate men ladies and disabled toilets , 2 changing rooms and a kitchen. Very active on twitter and they should go up this season. Pre match visit to the Butt of Sherry in Mere with its big multi level outdoor garden offering views of the church and castle hill. Wriggle Brewery Dorset Nomad was available.

Sporting Burntwood 8 v 1 Royal Exchange

The venue for this game was St.Matthews Cricket club on the outskirts of Burntwood. A peaceful location with the football pitch separate from the cricket.

Another very entertaining game in this Sunday league, with more fixtures next Thursday. The home side were 3-1 up at half time, having raced into a 3 goal lead. The referee awarded the visitors a penalty which they duly converted.

Sporting started the second period brightly adding a couple more to their tally but Exchange continued to play their part and could have scored on a couple of occasions. A late goal flurry gave the score a realistic look, although a little harsh on the visitors who played their part and the whole match had a good spirit to it.

Tim in attendance again but also AV1960, attending his second game in this league after watching his first on Sunday. Good game and good company on a nice evening. Great stuff!

Bolton Hospital Cup Quarter Final

Elton Vale 1-2 Turton
Venue: Elton Vale Sports Club (Bury) - 2nd visit
Attendance: circa 125

10 minutes down the road tonight for Manchester League Division 1 side Elton against West Lancs Premier side Turton in the charity Bolton Hospital Cup which always has entertaining ties.

Elton Vale Sports Club is based in the Bury suburb of Elton behind a residential area. It has a cricket pitch and a separate railed football pitch. A clubhouse sits in the middle.

The game itself was quite tight and had a quick start with the Elton keeper rushing out and 2 footing the Turton attacker to gather the ball in his arms. He was given a yellow card and Turton converted the penalty. A few chances each with Turton edging the play and hitting the upright on a couple of occasions. Elton equalised through Dom Slaven following a mix up. Turton took the lead with a bullet header in the 2nd half and despite pressing, Elton couldn’t really muster any chances.

Lots of Bury/Bolton football royalty watching the game. Oldhams Nicky Adams who is always at local non league matches and does a lot in the community. Chester joint managers Bernard Morley and Jonno having a drink with some of their former players including Jordan Hulme.

An ex pro was playing for Elton - Kelvin Lomax (now known as Kelvin Trippier (half brother of Bury native Kieran Trippier)). Kelvin is 34 now and fell off grid for a number of years. He played for Oldham, Rochdale, Shrewsbury amongst others.

Nothing to add - a smashing evening in the Burntwood sunshine. More to come....

Perfectly acceptable fare for this division. Played at the village rec, with the football being an enclosed area with two pitches and with a backdrop of sheep fields and rolling hills which looked great in the evening sun. There’s a changing room / clubhouse in the corner as you enter, gently raised grass banking to your left and the far side was roped off, separating it from the other pitch where kids training was taking place.

Before the game I popped into the Home Guard Club in Tiddington and can confirm that AFC Stratford are based at the ground previously used by Alveston in the Midland combination. Google Maps shows the pitch being used for rugby but it has now been restored for proper purpose and is railed on two sides, has floodlights and modern dugouts, although the old stand has gone. The remainder of the site has been re-developed and is looking quite smart, so it’ll be a useful tick for anyone who missed Alveston.

I didn't go anywhere tonight, but that's interesting. Jordan Hulme has just received a 6 match ban and a £900 fine from the FA for an ill-advised post on his instagram. I suspect this might give an idea of his club for next season.

Shottery United 2-4 Bearley United blues

A very pleasant part of Warwickshire, the Pavillion Ground is a multi-purpose sports facility including a cricket pitch and tennis courts along with the football pitch.

This could have been pretty much any scoreline. The visitors went into 2 goal lead, aided by some poor keeping, allowing a sanked cross to drift over his head for the second. Shottery hit the post and bar, before pulling back to 2-1 with a penalty on 40 minutes. After the interval, the hosts levelled on 50 minutes with the goal of the game - a fierce shot across the keeper and into the top corner.

At this point, I fancied that Shottery would go on to win, but it was Bearley who scored twice more, both from set pieces. Two late red cards saw Bearley down to 9 men for the last couple of minutes, but there were no more goals
