The Sri Lanka Tests were an interesting exercise for TMS – studio-based commentary from a live TV feed. Does Talk Radio's deal prohibit the BBC from doing that again?
You would assume so, but I remember TalkSport covering a football World Cup, commentating off a TV and providing their own background noise...

As an aside, spare a thought for poor Kusal Mendis in the first test against England. While fielding at short leg he got in the way of several shots and took about 3-4 consecutive nasty blows on the knuckle, shoulder, and fingers. He must have thought the England batsmen had a vendetta against him.

With the First Test starting on Friday at Chennai. Early alarm calls will be needed for the 04:00 start.

West Indies scored nearly 400 to beat Bangladesh, who had earlier declared in their 2nd innings

Kyle Mayers has just scored an unbeaten double century, on his debut, in Test cricket to lead West Indies to the fifth highest run chase of all times. His first class average is (or was) just under 29.

The last hour or so makes one question Root's captaincy yet again, even if they go on to win

England – it was good while it lasted. Perhaps they can use the second innings for batting practise.

The squealing from the English cricket press about the "unfair pitch" and "umpiring errors" is typical of the bias of these writers.

Second Test looked a reasonable game too. West Indies won by 17 runs. Chasing 231 to win, Bangladesh went from 101/3 to 213 all out. All 10 wickets going to spinners.

Not just the English cricket press though is it? Jack Leach, Jofra Archer, Michael Vaughan. In fact they are queueing up to condemn the surface that was 'prepared'

Wasn't this test played in the same stadium, therefore same pitch, in Chennai as the first test which we won? Didn't hear them complaining about the pitch then:unsure:.

Australia have a vested interest in the outcome of this series - if India win the series they take the place in the world test championship final that will otherwise go to Australia (or to England if we win at least 3-0, but let's be realistic). So, like in county cricket, deliberately preparing a results pitch gives the home team an advantage compared to pitches that encourage draws.

A 3-1 series win for England would also be enough for a place in the world test final. Stranger things have happened.

County cricket have discouraged the preparation of biased surfaces by the introduction of the uncontested toss with the visitors having the choice of whether or not to bat first.
