6 in the top 40 from the north east, no way will that many get in the northern league even if 2 are relegated. The most likely seem blyth, newcastle blue star, horden and wolviston
Could they move Northallerton to NCE prem (step 5) and promote three to NL2?

The general opinion in the Durham Area is that Durham City are now favoring relegation as apposed to struggling on for another year so if what we are led to believe is true with everyone predicting the top 4, maybe 5 NL 1 clubs being promoted into the new step 4 league then if there is no relegation from NL 1 that is 4- 5 places to be filled. A Carlisle City fan at a recent game at Chester Le St was saying they may be moved back so that would allow all applicants for NL 2 to achieve promotion. The only problem would be ground issues. Blyth Town are the only club with no ground issues. Blue Star should be ready, Killingworth are no where near. Gateshead Leam Rangers are right on track, Hordens Lights are a problem Wolviston had no lights last time i was there end of September , Durham Utd who i have watched a few times lately are a million miles away player wise not to mention the ground which has been let go to the point i would say its one of the worst in the NL. If Durham do stay up i can see them moving to Nissan as Sunderland will be in their new ground next season.

The actual number of clubs being promoted/relegated are:
NL1= top 3 promoted
NL1= 12 of the 14 bottom placed sides across step 5 will be relegated. The top 2 bottom placed sides on a ppg basis will not be relegated.
NL2= top 4 promoted
NL2= bottom 2 liable to relegation on a ppg basis across step 6.
My prediction is that the FA league committee will be looking to find between 3-5 clubs to fill NL2. I’m starting to think that Boro Rangers won’t be promoted because the joint tenancy agreement won’t be allowed.
I think Cleator Moor Celtic might well be laterally transferred over from the NWCL1N. So they’ll only need to find between 2-4 step 7 clubs.

Maybe no teams will go Down from the northern league 1st division with 3 been promoted, would make sense. Really the only guarantee is 3 clubs will go up from the northern league to step 8. The fa have not even confirmed which area this new step 8 will cover, will presume they will draw a boundary across the map from the humber to the north west coast

New ferens park was going rot when i was last there, about 10 year back. Shame its gone that way, was the envy of most clubs when it opened

I emailed the FA and they told me that they expect it to be north of the Mersey-Humber. Obviously this’ll depend on if there’s enough clubs and it may dip below this. They also said that the two other NPL step 4 league’s, will be east and west. That’s why I’ve set my predictions that way.

I follow all levels of none league - I am the fixture and result secretary of the East Lancs football league.
There are significant differences between the depth and standards of the various Step 7 leagues, and both ground grading and geography will, of course, be the main deciding factors as to which of the 85 applicants make the final cut of 40 (or probably less) to be promoted. However based solely on performance on the field here's how the clubs currently rank according to latest tables on Non League Matters:

are they allowing reserve teams to be promoted? I thought I read that they were not allowing reserve teams in at step 6 any more (those already there can stay till relegated) therefore Gainsborough Trinity Reserves and Melksham Town Reserves wouldn't be allowed up. Or has this changed?

You could be correct as i see Hebburn Town Reserves have decided not to apply which seems strange with Hebburn Town looking like certainty's to be promoted. They applied last year yet not this year, maybe they have been told they will be wasting their time

They told me that they’ll be applying again in the future

The NLS regulations allow reserve (or pseudo reserve) sides at Step 6. They can't be promoted above that level. Any existing reserve teams higher up the pyramid can stay where they are unless relegated.

I’d change Wellington Amateurs as unlikely. Pitch is too small and a few other things.
Did the pitch length not get sorted the last time they were promoted? I remember there was a last min panic getting the extra yards in to satisfy the requirement? Although not been there for 5 years in case anything has changed.

With 4 promoted from Northern League Division 2 and only 1 relegated from Division 1 then 3 teams are required before any other team is relegated. It doesn't look like any more than 3 teams will satisfy the criteria from the feeder leagues and that's based on Gateshead Leam Rangers finishing 5th or higher and excluding Boro Rangers. That would keep Division 2 at 20 teams and the bottom 2 clubs would be reprieved. However if Gateshead Leam Rangers finish below 5th place that means only 2 clubs officially qualified and only then if the Northern Alliance League agree to the promotion of 2 clubs from their league. If the Northern Alliance League object to 2 teams being promoted from their league then based on the rules that would mean only 1 club actually qualifies for promotion from the 3 feeder leagues to the Northern League, which in turn would leave just 18 in Division 2 next season.

Cant see the Northern alliance refusing to let any team progress. They always have a very healthy amount of applicants each season and regularly turn teams away being over subscribed. Cant see this year being any different. The Wearside league are a different matter. They cant afford to lose 2 or 3 teams as most of second division play on facility's that wouldn't be accepted

Its a rule which needs updating. There are no more reserve sides left at step 5 or higher. At least according to the LC there are not. And as its their ruling we must go by their definition of a reserve side even though many disagree with it.

Some who disagree with it seem to do so simply because they've lost sight of what a reserve actually is. A reserve is, and always has been, merely a standby or back up for the first team, at the behest of those who run the first team.

The reality is that those handful of clubs at step 5 sometimes dismissed on here as reserve sides simply do not exist to be reserve sides nor do they function as reserve sides. The FA, in crafting its definition, has simply put some parameters around that to ensure a suitable level of autonomy is maintained.

I totally agree with what you have posted. But still do not see why the FA have not updated that rule.There no point in stating that reserve teams already at step 5 can stay there when the FALC do not consider that there are any.
