League Cup 2nd Round 2nd Replay

The sort of match which would be unthinkable now, but not uncommon back when cup replays continued until someone won in open play.

The single sheet teamsheet/programme at 3d (1.25p in new money) gave all the key details needed by a neutral spectator. Probably the most prominent name listed is Albert Johanessen whose story has been well told. No doubt Hoddy will remember Barry Swalllow.

Queen of the South 4 Albion Rovers 0 (390)

Had gone with a mate to Blackpool for the Stags 2-0 defeat on tuesday and decided to stay the night, travelling to Dumfries for this game the following day. Palmerston Park was a great lower league ground with the covered terracing reminding me of the old North Stand at Field Mill. The Doonhammers were easy victors in this Scottish 2nd Division game, although Albion did finish up bottom of the pile. One QoS player present who went on to greater things was winger Kevin (Ted) Mcminn, who shortly after transferred to Rangers. The journey home was eventful with a breakdown in Lancashire, my mate drove an unreliable Polski Fiat. The AA relay started off ok, then they dropped the baton with a few early morning hours spent in their Leeds depot. Luckily I didn't start work until 2pm, but the driver had a shower and went straight to work. Oh to be young again!

Wherever did you get that attendance from ?
I've just checked my Rothmans Football Yearbook for the relevant season and 1,437 is the attendance given, so perhaps that's where KK got it from.

Ta Chris,
this is why I'm glad I'm not a statto.
My ledger states 1,385.
Crewe stats book says 1,385.
11v11 states 1,385.
I'll stick with that.

The ammount of times I've found conflicting attendances whilst checking stats during shut down even at Football League level is worrying. One person makes a mistake and its perpetuated.

Agree that Rothmans is not always reliable for attendances. I've found that while league games for Oxford United tend to have the correct figures in Rothmans, it's a different story for cup games where the attendances given by Oxford at a later date sometimes differ slightly from those in Rothmans. When this happens, I always go by Oxford United's version.
