Well now. That was a great way to start the tournament. Sweden beating USA counts as a shock, albeit not an earth-shattering one even after a 2-year unbeaten run by the USA, but 3-0? Wow.

First batch of results:
E: GB 2-0 Chile
F: China 0-5 Brazil
G: Sweden 3-0 USA

And the lunchtime results:
E: Japan 1-1 Canada
F; Zambia 3-10 Netherlands
G: Australia 2-1 New Zealand

Zambia v Netherlands was fun, some strange goalkeeping and well the Dutch can be got at!
The Zambian goalie taking the knee instead of saving it? A political gesture?

Japan vs Team GB (11.30 Saturday) will be live on Eurosport and on BBC Radio 5 Live. BBC One and Red Button look like they will be concentrating on other sports.

Banda of Zambia got another hatrick in 4-4 draw with China to add with the one in 10-3 defeat to Netherlands.
Zambia worth watching!

Group E:
Japan 0-1 GB
Chile 1-2 Canada

Group F:
China 4-4 Zambia
Netherlands 3-3 Brazil

Group G:
Sweden 4-2 Australia
New Zealand 1-6 USA

GB and Sweden are both in the next round and each need only a draw in their last game to win their group. The draw between China and Zambia means that barring a huge upset it's Group F where the third placed team will miss out. Japan therefore probably only need a draw against Chile to progress. Unless Zambia beat Brazil or China beat Netherlands (or in some cases unless NZ hammer Sweden), Canada, Netherlands, Brazil, USA & Australia get the other QF places, while Chile get the last spot if they can beat Japan.

The last round of games are on Tuesday, Group G at 9 am our time, Group E at 12 noon and Group F at 12:30. Expect Canada-GB to be on TV and radio at 12, and if we're very lucky perhaps USA-Australia available online beforehand.

Canada-GB is being advertised as on % Live Sports Extra at 12. The TV coverage seems to have a pretty firm policy of not committing on what will be shown when, which is fair enough when they're only allowed two streams at any one moment, so if you want to be sure of watching it you'll need to be on Eurosport.

At half time in the early kickoffs, Australia are holding the USA. The loser of that game is almost certainly our QF opponent if we top the group. Tough draw either way.

Sweden into QF 3, almost certainly against 3rd from GB's Group E. USA into QF 4, against the winner of the Brazil/Netherlands group. That will doubtless be the highlight of the QFs. Australia are almost certainly through and if so will play the winner of GB's group.

GB face Australia in QF 2. Canada get Brazil in QF 1 unless there's a huge swing in the latest scores in Group F. Japan face Sweden in QF 3 and QF 4 will be USA against the winners of Group F, almost certainly Netherlands.

Can't imagine Brazil will be happy with that. Canada may feel optimistic they can go one better than Zambia managed.

GB play Australia at 10 am on Friday, the winner facing the winner of Brazil v Canada in the semis.

Canada 0-0 Brazil (4-3 penalties)
GB 3-4 Australia (AET, 2-2 at FT)
Sweden 3-1 Japan
Netherlands 2-2 USA (2-4 penalties)

Three of the four quarter finals were level at 90 minutes. Looks to be a very even standard among the teams that qualified, with Sweden a bit stronger than the rest.

Miedema missed the first penalty for the Dutch. That wasn't in the script. Rapinoe scored the winning one, which perhaps was.
