Does anybody know how the Q1 zones will be this year?

Last year
The 10 zones of the previous rounds were reduced to 5 by amalgamating
1 & 2 (new 1), 3 & 4 (new 2), 5 & 6 (new 3), 7, 9 & 10 (new 5) and 8 (new 4)

Does anybody know how the FA determine which clubs to move to other zones? Are they all pre-determined or are some by "luck of the draw"?

I ask because Aylesbury ground share at Chesham, but were moved to the western zone yesterday although there are definitely clubs that are further west. Maybe, there is some logic to it, but that has passed me by!

The 2 Dunstable clubs are in different zones!

I noticed for my Extra Preliminary and Preliminary round mapping that they were a few teams in odd zones. Leiston being in the same zone as the Essex clubs rather than the Suffolk & Norfolk clubs was one.

There seemed to be more transfers for 1Q than normal years.

Yes, particularly in the South & West

Arlesey and Baldock are in different zones, despite ground sharing. I did wonder if it is to stop 2 groundsharing clubs being drawn against each other...

Surely wherever possible in each round they try to have the same number clubs from each step in each group, so some clubs will look wrong.

I don't think that's right. Some zones appear stronger or weaker than the others.

There was a post on the old forum one season that showed a breakdown of clubs at a certain step.

The imbalance of step 4/5/6 clubs between north and south always makes it easier for any southern club to reach to reach the 'proper rounds', even if the leagues were the same strength.

From First to Second qualifying rounds

Zone 1 - 20 winners + 12 exemptions = 32
Zone 2 - 22 winners + 6 exemptions = 28
Zone 3 - 25 winners + 8 exemptions +1 transfer (AFC Dunstable) = 34
Zone 4 - 30 winners + 11 exemptions + 2 transfer (Chichester & Moneyfields) - transfer (AFC Dunstable) = 42
Zone 5 - 20 winners + 6 exemptions - 2 transfers (Chichester & Moneyfields) = 24
