One of the main issues at Bournemouth was that nothing else was open. No pubs, restaurants, toilets, amusement arcades, putting courses, etc, so the beach was pretty much the only place to go.

Also there was an interesting bit of film on the BBC News which showed the beach filmed from a drone. At ground level it looked awful, but from the air it was apparent that many groups of people were keeping the regulation 1 metre apart from the next group. A significant minority weren't i agree, but they were all outdoors, where it is safer we are told.

And who was that wally MP who, desperate for a soundbite, said that the beach should have been cleared, without actually giving anyone a clue as to how this should be done or by whom ?

I think this highlights the confusing messages about the relaxing of lockdown. The distance was, and remains 2 metres until the 4th July.

There is a nice little beach at Rutland Water not from Leicester. There was a suggestion this morning from an academic that locking down just the city could spread the virus further as locals desperate to go to the pub again will head to places but outside the city boundary, so maybe a countywide lockdown is needed.

Hancock's Half Hour announcement on Leicester has been delayed until 21:30 for some reason or other but countywide will not happen but when you can walk from the city boundary to the JDW in Oadby in five minutes then there are interesting times ahead for such towns and villages that are going to be struggling anyway without an influx of the drinking hordes from the big city.

There is no distance specified in the English regulations. The distance is only a recommendation, despite the continual reference to "rules" by politicians and media.

Oadby, Glenfield and Birstall to be included in Leicester lockdown.

Their FA Cup run ended on their own turf and then the only part of England to have to re-lockdown.

Rough few days. ☹

Wouldn't be surprised if their home match vs Crystal Palace on Saturday gets moved, possibly to Villa Park.

Yep. Government advising against all non-essential travel to, from and within Leicester.

Sounds like one better suited to the Restructuring thread what with the M1 splitting LFE!! Looks like Loughborough for my trains then.

The town of Blaby itself along with Whetstone is outside of the lockdown area which runs from the M1 eastwards to the A46 southwards. Also surprised that Thurnby is outside of the lockdown area considering how close it is to the epicentre of the outbreak in North Evington.
Would put up a map to the lockdown area but can't get the link to work .

Leicester’s garment factories have been the subject of concern for years. A report by the parliamentary environmental audit committee last year found that wage exploitation was flourishing in the city and across the sector more broadly. MPs behind the report heard it was an “open secret” that many of the 1,000 or so factories and workshops in the city were paying below the minimum wage.

The mostly immigrant workers, many of whom have limited English, are paid as little as £3 an hour in some cases. A failure to communicate lockdown rules to those communities has also been viewed as playing a part in the resurgence of the virus in Leicester.

And half a million innocent people are now paying the price of the above. There are probably other factors involved as we will be seeing when other places go the same unfortunate way of Leicester but when community leaders are coming out saying certain people need to be educated then it says it all.
