Broadcaster and former teacher Simon Warr died on Saturday morning at the age of 65. He was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer at the end of last year. He rose to fame in the Channel 4 series 'That'll Teach Em', which ran from 2003 to 2006 and saw modern day students sent back to the classroom to sample the much stricter teaching methods of a post war style education, minus the cane. On Saturday afternoons he would be heard on BBC Radio Suffolk reporting on Bury St Edmunds rugby or a local non league football match and his reports were always entertaining whenever I was at a match in the area and tuned in. He was also a regular contributor on the Jeremy Vine show on Radio 2.

The Irish-bred race horse Double Trigger has died of a heart-attack, aged 28.

Double Trigger was described as one of the best-ever racehorses on the flat over two miles, and is probably most famous for winning the Ascot Gold Cup in June 1995, beating St.Leger winner Moonax by five lengths, then going on to win the Goodwood Gold Cup three times in 1995, 1997 and 1998. The 1995 win was a thrilling finish which saw Double Trigger win by a neck against his full brother Double Eclipse...

Double Trigger went on to win the Doncaster Cup three times - in 1995, 1996 and 1998 - and a full-size bronze statue can be seen at Doncaster racecourse next to the Clock Tower stand.

Katherine Johnson has died aged 101.

Mathematician who calculated the trajectories, flight and orbit paths of the early moon landings by hand.

She graduated from High School at 14 and university at 18 and overcame many of the racial and gender prejudices of the time, initially working in a segregated unit of Afro-American women.

She was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the highest civilian honour in the US, by Barrack Obama in 2015.

The book and film Hidden Figures covers the work of Johnson and other black female mathematicians at NASA.

Shouldn't this be in the obituary section in the 'Other Sports' part of the forum?

By the way, I'm not in favour of statues being erected in memory of living humans, but horses are fine with me.

Former Egypt president Hosni Mubarak has died aged 91. He took over following the assassination of Anwar Sadat in 1981 and served for 30 years until being ousted by the military following the Arab Spring protests in 2011.

"Tremendous Knowledge " Dave Rainford, former Egghead and the most "normal" of that bunch sadly passed away after an unspecified illness. Banned from many pubs in the Greater Manchester area because he kept emptying the quiz machines back in the day.

One of his more recognisable roles was in the 1981 film 'Escape to Victory' as a sympathetic German army major who sees himself as a patriotic German rather than a Nazi. Curiously enough, Max was born with the name Adolf (common in Sweden as well as Germany) but dropped it after WW2 for obvious reasons. The film has been much criticised for various reasons, particularly the terrible acting of the footballers involved but it is otherwise not a bad film. The football match at the film's conclusion is superbly choreographed and the German characters in the film do at least speak German (subtitled in English) amongst themselves, which is very unusual for any Hollywood WW2 film.

He was probably one of the only highlights from a rather poor remake of ‘Thunderball’ in the 1983 film ‘Never say never Again’.

Barbara Martin, a founder member of The Supremes, died last week aged 76. She sang lead vocals on many songs on their first album but left in 1962 before the group made it big.

Former BBC Radio 2 and 6Music presenter Pete Mitchell has died at the age of 61.

Mitchell was a big supporter of independent music in Manchester in the late 80s and early 90s, and was one of the very first DJs to play The Charlatans on radio, as well as the likes of Happy Mondays, 808 State and Oasis.

American limousine driver, stuntman and daredevil Michael 'Mad Mike' Hughes, known for flying in his own self-built steam rockets, has died at the age of 64.

He was filming and piloting the flight of one of his rockets on behalf of the Flat Earth community at Barstow, California on 22nd February for inclusion in the Science Channel's television programme 'Homemade Astronauts'. Unfortunately, the craft malfunctioned twenty seconds into the flight due to parachute failure, and Mad Mike was killed in the resulting crash...

Nearly 50 years ago whilst working in local radio I had to interview Roy Hudd when he opened a local boys club. He would only conduct the interview whilst we both jumped up and down on a trampoline. The boys watching thought it hilarious, but you should try putting a microphone by the mouth of the person you are interviewing on a trampoline, he was going up when I was coming down and vice versa. Still got the tape as it was as usable; probably not playable now and I no longer have a fast speed tape recorder.
