North West Counties Division 1 South side Stockport Town have signed Robbie Savage, yes that Robbie Savage, and could play in their next game which is against Oswestry Town,

Which is tonight, Monday 25th Nov. Fingers crossed that Maine Road v Stone OA survives the weather or else I might have to go to the Stockport Town/Robbie Savage media circus instead......

Am surprised because I thought there was a sensible set-up there, with Alan Lord and the connections with County, and Stockport College (getting youngsters that've been released and getting them back on track/making sure they get an education). Al is a top bloke and not the sort to encourage a media circus.

Players getting back into football after being released by clubs is the exact reason Savage is saying he has joined the club and there is surely no reason to disbelieve it and if it brings media interest and a few more paying punters in then its a no lose situation for all concerned.

I believe he has involvement in their academy.

Is it a media circus or is it raising the profile of the non-league game? Seems unfair to judge before anything actually develops.

Played the last 10 minutes in a 3-2 win in front of 225. Hardly a media circus.
