The cup is still competed for. No English clubs compete for it.

A UK cup?

Not entirely, no.

Best known as a footballer?

No.

So a dead male non-English non-footballer born before 1900 died before 1966 surname BM-BR (go on, I'll give you BO or BR 1st two letters...)

It'll need some incisive diagonal through balls to stop me getting to 100 on this one I reckon.

Best known for a football connection?

No, best known for other activities.

Is he connected to a sport other than football?

The way that's phrased, it's difficult to answer.

I'll answer indirectly and say the current holder is Irish...

Associated with a specific league or cup competition?

He is associated with a Cup, yes.

Has a cup named after him?

Yes.

Is the cup an Association Football cup (i.e. not for another sport)?

GOAL!

The man who has four football teams named after him (my reason for choosing him) and, as a distraction you found all by yourselves, a rugby cup awarded to the winner of games between Argentina and Ireland (who represent the island of Ireland, thus my wording in recent answers)
