Dennis Edwards (Charlton Athletic, Portsmouth, Brentford, Aldershot) Can't Post or Reply Privately

All at Brentford Football Club were saddened to hear of the death of our first ever loan player Dennis Edwards.

Dennis played 11 games for The Bees in the 1967/68 season, on loan from Portsmouth.

He died last Friday, 13th September, at the age of 82.

The football authorities changed the rules and allowed clubs to borrow players from others in different divisions in the mid-1960s and Dennis joined Brentford from Portsmouth during the 1967/68 season.

He featured 11 times and scored two goals but then moved on to Aldershot, where he ended his career.

Dennis had started out at Slough Town and also played for Charlton Athletic and Wycombe Wanderers.

Dennis played twice for England Amateurs, scoring three times, while at Wycombe and spent more than a decade in the Football League.

His last games were played for Aldershot before he retired to Hampshire.

He played up front with Roy Matthews in the Charlton team of the early 1960s. His style of play used to infuriate me. It was too delicate for the rough and tumble of the old Second Division.
