Well, we have the FA to congratulate for these results don't we. This sower should have been relegated before anyone else in the summer. Not a proper club, no support or fanbase, and completely out of their depth, and have been for years! The Wiltshire League sides would smash them to pieces too!

Think Carterton and North Leigh United deserve your congratulations more than the FA - their resignations during the season ensured New College couldn't be relegated. But we can congratulate the FA for keeping to the rules and not relegating an extra club.

The upcoming second phase of restructuring, which will rid step 6 of the last remaining, significantly under-strength divisions, is what will eventually catch up with New College (if they survive this season), who've obviously ridden their luck for a number of years now.

Oh come off - you know full well the relegations in the summer had nothing to do with following the rules (have you come up with an explanation for Codicote's relegation yet, or that of Harworth or Thrapston, when they had better PPG tha Durham other bottom markers).

It had everything to do with geography. If they wanted to sen New College Swindon down they could have done so, within the "rules"

Well I have just alluded to how this could be done.

The same way they relegated Codicote within the rules, outside the rules, against the rules but ultimately also within the rules! Keep up!

I'm a few steps ahead actually, in part by ignoring the fatally-flawed logic that, just because one decision baffles you, decisions without any foundation can and should therefore be made to suit your wishes.

New College have survived at step 6 rather fortuitously for a few years but entirely in keeping with the rules. Unless they improve significantly, the next phase of restructuring will make it a lot harder for them to continue riding their luck in the future. As it should be.

I’m not sure how many relegations will happen from step 6 this season, if any? So they may be safe for a couple of seasons. Personally I hope that the FALC will promote extra step 7 clubs and the perennial strugglers at step 6 are relegated. I know the rules allows this to happen, but I’m not sure it will actually go that way.

Perhaps questions should be asked of the New College Swindon hierarchy who consistently enter a team into a level they clearly are not capable of competing properly at. Such teams have a high turnover of players, but they are consistently useless and i'm struggling to see the benefit for the students.

Possibly this season but yes, I'm thinking more next season, once the current Hellenic Div 1s have been transitioned away. The club would then in a stronger, fuller division and one that's hopefully less liable to having teams withdraw mid-season, which would mean relegation finally catching up with them unless they improve substantially.

Tbh, if these results continue after they (presumably) get their better players back when the new college term starts, I wouldn't back against them throwing in the towel this season, or at the end of this season, anyway.

I have no idea what you are now rambling on about. You asked "How Exactly" New College Swindon could have been relegated by the FA the summer just gone. I have told you how they could have done it, by giving the example of Codictote's relegation. The FA do not apply their rules consistently and enforce relegations that are against their own written down rules, in order to suit themselves! And when asked to explain themselves, they simply don't or find a way of getting out of it. How many times have I got to say Codicote!

They could simply have found a similar avenue to go down, in order to remove New College Swindon from Step 6, a team that the FA must surely be aware have been completely and utterly out of their depth for years (they have not finished outside the bottom 4 of the Hellenic One West in the last 7 years!

While they've never made the top half, last season was the first time they've actually come bottom of their division. And even then they weren't ranked last in terms of determining relegation, nominally finishing ahead of Carterton and North Leigh United.

Not bottom two last season so not "liable to relegation" under the regulations. Hopefully doubling the dose of reality has now cured one poster's symptoms of repeating Codicote ad nauseam Wink.

Bizarrely the one time I saw New College they won 5-1 - a result worthy of an entry into a thread such as this, and not against fellow-strugglers Tytherington either. Significantly it was an evening game during term time, and was a stark contrast to their Saturday and non-term time results that year (2017), iirc.

This is meant to be about mad results, not what did and didn't happen during the summer at the FA.

Yes, and the discussion has now explained why supposedly mad results affecting one particular club are happening.

Most on here already know that they were crap last year and are still crap this year. Windy put the result up from their latest defeat, that is all that is required.

Some might be happy with nothing more than a list of random big results but, since we're in a "mad results" thread in the "non-league discussion/mainly discussion threads/general discussion" section you can hardly object to a discussion of mad results taking place here. Crazy

The misunderstanding over relegation rules was merely a component of one factor (i.e. the club's continued existence at a level where they seem out of their depth), and one factor amongst several discussed, which explains their regular tonkings. Topics can overlap.

Anyway, when (if?) they get their first point on the board I expect to read about it here first!
