Update on La Segunda after Tuesday's games (delayed from the weekend after the death of Extremadura's Jose Antonio Reyes).

Osasuna crowned champions, Granada promoted automatically after a 1-1 draw in Mallorca.

Malaga, Albacete and Mallorca all guaranteed a play-off position - the final spot will be battled out between Deportivo La Coruna (6th, 65 pts), Cadiz (7th, 64 pts) and Real Oviedo (8th, 63 pts). Super Depor host bottom side Cordoba, Cadiz go to Sporting Gijon and Oviedo are away at the champions Osasuna. As this is the final round of games, all will be played on Saturday night at 19.30 UK time (at least one of these three should be live on YouTube).

Meanwhile at the bottom, the fourth relegation place was confirmed as Rayo Majadahonda return to the third tier after a crazy 4-3 defeat at Oviedo - Rayo were leading 3-1 with 9 minutes remaining.

Question for Paul here - has there been any decision made on what will happen to Reus' spot in Segunda B next season? I guess they will restart in Tercera Group 5 (replacing their B team that are in there currently), but obviously they leave a vacancy in the third tier. Extra promotion from Tercera? Or will we see a similar thing to last season whereby Ibiza-Eivissa purchased Lorca's spot after they were refused a licence?

Even worse than I thought then, was sure I saw 81, 86 and 90. Overall though Rayo have had a much better season than many gave them a chance of having even though it's ended in relegation. This may have been discussed elsewhere but do they have any official tie-in with Atletico? I know they've used their ground this season.

No. No tie , they used Wanda at start of season whilst ''Miniestadio Cerro del Espino'' was being brought up to standard.
They moved into 'Mini' for R16 game v Deportivo on Dec 2.

I visited for the Bank Holiday Monday Jan 7th game v Las Palmas , 0-0 , being a 21-00 kick off had plenty of time to go Las Rozas v Pozeula Alarcon ,4-0 at 12-00 in the Tercera (G7). There were nearly 3,000 on 'Mini' , quite full.

Never thought they would go down.

If it was 2-0 to Deportivo in the first leg and 0-3 in favour of Mallorca in the second leg, then surely Mallorca should go up ?

Promotion from Segunda to Primera Division
Final

RC Deportivo de La Coruña v RCD Mallorca 2-0, 0-3 (2-3 agg)
Deportivo are promoted to Primera Division

If it was 2-0 to Deportivo in the first leg and 0-3 in favour of Mallorca in the second leg, then surely Mallorca should go up ?

Your right of course .

FevLens says there were 21,210 present.

If that’s what he says the crowd was, then of course it is correct.
He is the only person on this forum who gets everything right more than you.....and that takes some doing Tongue

Re: [PaulC] Spain - end of season play-offs 2018-19 [In reply to] Can't Post or Reply Privately

As mentioned on the 'Promotions & Relegations' thread, a decision has been made on the status of Reus for next season. From some fairly hefty use of Google Translate it seems that they were unable to put forward the requisite funds to start the season in Segunda B and their directors were therefore able to put their place up for sale for just over 450000 euros. Interested parties I've seen noted were InterCity Alicante (Tercera Group 6), Zamora (Tercera Group 8) and FC Andorra (Tercera Group 5). FC Andorra were chosen as preferred option (not many details on why this was - a few conspiracy theories seem to be flying about that because Gerard Pique's company own Andorra they were given the nod, although I reckon geography may have also played a part) and they therefore gain 'back to back' promotions. The story doesn't end here though - the knock on effects to Tercera Group 5 are still being disputed. I've done my best here so bear with me!

Reus take the place of their B team
FC Andorra (Group A winners), Vilassar de Mar (Group B winners) and Manresa (play-off winners) were promoted from Primera Catalana, but because Group 5 lost two teams through the play-offs to Segunda B (Llagostera and Prat) and gained only one back through relegation (Peralada) they were one short. Spain clearly don't believe in reprieves so the team in Primera Catalana with the next best league record were promoted - usually this would have been the play-off losers (Girona B) however Girona have a tie-in with Peralada who are now in the same division so they were denied the promotion, which was given to Igualada (3rd in PC Group B).

Then, the Reus issue. FC Andorra gain their second promotion leaving another space. No reprieves here remember - let's raid Primera Catalana again. In the last couple of weeks it seems that Girona and Peralada are no longer linked (perhaps conveniently if they saw this situation arising) for the 2019/20 season. Unfortunately for Girona B the authorities are having none of this and they have again been denied the promotion to Tercera, which has been handed to Banyoles (3rd in PC Group A). Girona are apparently to appeal this decision so this could rumble on yet.

If you read all of this and are wondering what happens to Primera Catalana which has been hit heavily by all these promotions, I have no idea!
