John Maunders (Altrincham chairman) Can't Post or Reply Privately

The property developer and former Altrincham chairman, John Maunders, has died at the age of 74.
For a number of years in the early nineties he pumped money into the club, while letting others run it, before becoming chairman himself in 1994. The club had some success, meeting Tottenham Hotspur in the FA Cup 3rd Round, before he decided to cut his losses at the end of the season, as he was losing so much money (the needless expenditure on excessive crowd control certainly didn't help) .
He announced that he would reluctantly close the club if no buyer came forward. Supporters were preparing to launch a phoenix club in the North West Counties League or Mid-Cheshire League, but, at the eleventh hour manager/director John King was able to bring back former chairman Gerry Berman to return and save the club.
John Maunders went back to watching Manchester United.
