Coventry City and problems at the Ricoh Can't Post or Reply Privately

More problems for Coventry City, who face homelessness next season after failing to secure a future at the Ricoh Arena for the 2019/20 season...

http://www.fsf.org.uk/...ing-league-expulsion

The EFL have given CCFC until 25th April to secure a new home for next season. Otherwise, they could be expelled from the Football League.

I'm thinking that the owners are pushing this until the last minute in a hope they will get a better deal.

Iíd have thought staying close to their fan base should be a priority this time, rather than going to Northampton or the like again.

Iíve not been to the Coventry Rugby ground, but is there any chance they could bring that up to FL standards with a couple of temporary stands? Looking a photos the Main Stand it seems impressive for a non-professional rugby club. I just donít know if their is space around the rest of the ground to stick a couple of temporaryís.

That one has been talked about loads and I think its a non starter also Norman Smurthwaite came out earlier in the week denying he had spoken to Cov about a groundshare at Nuneaton Borough.

No chance at all. There is only one show in town. It should also be pointed out that Coventry Rugby Chairman (and head honcho) is on the record as saying that he will not deal with Sisu under any circumstances because of what they have done to the city.

Things seem to have gone quiet on any proposed share at Burton seemingly leaving Birmingham City as favourite through there is apparently another club in the running,

Leicester would be ideal but seeing as they often play reserve games elsewhere I doubt they would entertain such an idea but the clock is ticking for a solution to be found.

If anyone hasnt seen this -

https://www.ccfc.co.uk/...ng-efl-board-update/

"Coventry City today provided an update to the EFL Board, as was requested.

The Football Club confirmed to the EFL that it is close to the Head of Terms stage with two groundshare options. Coventry City will now progress to working on finalising terms with the Clubs and Stadiums involved."

There is some chatter on a couple of rugby forums that all may not be well with Wasps.

They are struggling to half-fill the Ricoh for Premiership games and the loss of rental income from Coventry wonít help.

They will need to work harder at attracting more ancillary events as 11 Premiership fixtures and 4 or 5 European fixtures isnít going to justify the purchase and maintenance of that stadium.

There are some right prats on that forum and they should be careful what they wish for as Wasps are carrying debts of £35m which could increase considerably after court cases and could well end up with them bankrupt. I have never had any time for Cov but feel for them over this. A decent stadium which was purposely built for them and this is what they are having to put up with yet again.

The Supreme Court today announced that Sisu had been refused leave to appeal against the latest court ruling against them with regard to the sale of the Ricoh Arena. Their only remaining hope is the European Court. Predictably both Wasps and Coventry City Council were enthusiastic in their response to the verdict and called on Sisu to at long last drop the court case; equally predictably there was no comment from Sisu.
In a separate development Birmingham City were revealed as one of the two clubs who have agreed preliminary details on a ground share whilst Coventry RFC have denied the report in today's Times which says that they are the other.

Sky Sports News were yesterday reporting Birmingham and an "unnamed EFL club" so that does narrow it down (a bit).

The talks are still dragging on between City, Wasps, the city council and Sisu...

https://coventryobserver.co.uk/...eed-in-secret-talks/

The longer these sort of talks go on, the less likely I think it's going to turn out for the best for City.

So unless SISU, CCC and Wasps can come to some sort of agreement then Birmingham it is for Cov next season. Any chance of the club moving to the Butts Park Arena went out of the window on Friday with Cov United signing a 10 year deal remain in place but that move was never really on the cards anyway.

A move to BPA was never on the cards, that was more smoke and mirrors from Sisu who seem determined to destroy the club.

Things seemed to be going OK but once Sisu started talking about bringing the European Commission into things then bang! Back to the starting position. Plans for season tickets need to be made quick smartish so this has to be sorted within days rather than weeks. What's your gut feeling on the end game?

Given the pig-headedness on all sides and the craven attitude of the FL, exemplified by outgoing Chief Executive Shaun Harvey on Sportsweek yesterday, I would expect it to be St Andrews. Sisu long ago proved they have no interest in the fans and despite increasingly desperate pleas for commonsense to prevail I would expect them to continue down the road to oblivion.
A season ticket at Solihull Moors or Coventry United is looking inceasingly likely!

Club now officially going to Birmingham next season. Coventry said in a statement the groundshare was necessary to retain place in the Football League. " We know full well that this is a very sad day for Coventry City and Sky Blues supporters" the statement added.

Pleased for Coventry that they'll be allowed to continue in the Football League (at least for one more season) but who can hold the EFL and Shaun Harvey in particular to account for their gross incompetence? The Coventry situation is just one of many financial issues ongoing with their member clubs (Bolton and Bury off the top of my head), yet they seem unable (unwilling?) to assist. They are little more than a disgrace, prioritising months long investigations into a man standing on a public footpath, or clubs disagreeing on social media, over supporting their own clubs that are being run into the ground by fraudsters and thieves.

Iím not in the camp that blames the authorities for everything. Regarding Bolton, they stood firm on the Balssini issue, better to let them go into Administration rather than be bought by someone worse.

Coventry, again iím not sure what they could do? If anything theyíve given them a lot of leeway with the ground (any team being promoted into the league wouldnít be allowed with that situation).

They are also trying with financial fair play. Itís difficult but they are doing something.

At the end of the day, itís hard if individuals run clubs badly, there has to be some responsibility from the clubs.

Of course, itís always the fans that suffer.

If you remember only a few months ago the Football League stipulated that Coventry City would have to play within 6 miles of the centre of Coventry. As usual they have capitulated.
There is a lot more I could say but best not to...

It's good to talk.Sly Maybe the FL bought into all the rubbish doing the rounds about Cov Utd and Boro.
