UEFA now has 55 members All are full FIFA members Seven of these are not members of the United Nations England, Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland and Gibraltar are combined at the UN and represented by the UK. These five also combine for Olympic competion as UK or GB The Faroe Islands are part of Denmark for UN purposes, and do not have an Olympic team Kosovo, not fully recognised internationally has special but not full status at the UN, but does play in the Olympics Monaco is a member of the UN, and competes in the Olympics, but has never sought membership of UEFA CAF (Africa) has 54 full members and an associate All of the 54 are members of FIFA and the UN, and can compete in the Olympics The associate member is Reunion, a French region which is represented at FIFA, the Olympics and the UN by France There was the slightly embarassing acceptance and the volte face of Zanzibar's inclusion for four months out of last year. They are now out in the cold again AFC (Asian) has 46 members and an associate All 46 members are also FIFA members, the associate, Northern Mariana Islands is not For the Olympics, neither the Northern Mariana Islands, not Macau have individual membership At the UN, both Palestine and Chinese Taipei have special status, but are not official members Hong Kong and Macau are represented by China Guam, like the Northern Mariana Islands are part of USA for both Olympic and UN purposes CONCACAF has 41 members Six are not members of FIFA, these are French Guyana, Guadeloupe, Martinique, Saint Martin, Sint Maarten and Bonaire. The first four of these are French, the last two Netherlandish. The six above and four others, Anguilla, Turks and Caicos Islands, Montserrat and Curacao are not represented at the Olympics, except Curacao (which is another Netherlands territory), these are British CONCACAF includes three more British teams that have independent Olympic membership, but are not UN members, these are Bermuda, British Virgin Islands and the Cayman Islands Similar status is given to one more from the Netherlands, Aruba and two from the USA - Puerto Rico and US Virgin Islands Oceania has 11 full, and 3 Associate members All full members are also in FIFA, while the other three - Kiribati, Niue and Tuvalu are not Kiribati and Tuvalu compete in the Olympics (and incidentally are CONIFA members), they are both UN members Niue is not a UN member, like the Cook Islands its representation is through New Zealand. Three other full members, Tahiti (aka French Polynesia), New Caledonia and American Samoa are also not UN members. The first two of these are French, while the last is a USA territiry. The Cook Islands and American Samoa take part in the Olympics Oceania has more potential members than anywhere else - apart from Kiribati and Tuvalu, the Marshall Islands, Micronesia, Nauru and Palau are all both full members of the UN, and represented at the Olympics CONMEBOL has just 10 members But they are all clear cut countries, with UN membership and Olympic representation. So that breaks down the 211 FIFA members - plus 11 other recognised football associations (either full or associate with the continental bodies) Of the 11, only Kiribati and Tuvalu are likely to become members under current rules, although the other four in the Pacific could follow in due course.

As Leo says above, neither the Faroe Islands or Macau are members of the IOC, but both are IPC members so send teams to the Paralympic Games.

In Europe, Jersey recently applied to UEFA but had their application denied. I can’t see any other nations emerging any time soon, unless any of the disputed territories, such as Transnistria get formal recognition Certainly wouldn’t expect Monaco to be applying, the only ones left who could meet the criteria. Other autonomous territories that might have applied in the past, but now banned from applying; Guernsey Isle of Man Aland Abkhazia South Ossetia Canary Islands Madeira Crimea None of these would add anything to the international football scene. There is the unlikely event we get break-up of countries, which could spawn: Catalonia Basque Country Flanders Wallonia East Ukraine Chechnya (any number of Russian states) Corsica Bornholm Moravia

You forgot to include Cornwall, which is no less likely to happen than some of the other places you mention. As far as I know, Eastern Ukraine isn't being claimed as a country by anyone. It is an integral and undisputed part of Ukraine that has been subjected to a proxy invasion by Russia simply because a lot of Russian speakers live in a couple of 'oblasts' (administrative regions) in that part of the country. The most that might happen is that the oblasts involved might get some sort of limited autonomy.

The Basque Country are playing an international today against Venezuela. The players taking part for the Basques included current top-flight players (ie it’s not a ‘C’ international level game). Obviously, not official from FIfA’s Perspective.
