Alfred "Alf" Alan John Moignard
born in Jersey 5th April 1931
died Thursday 16th August 2018, aged 87
A local character who was not afraid to call a spade a spade. Post Office Telegraph Boy, Policeman, Z Cars Taxi Company. Also assisted St. John Ambulance since joining as a cadet and they provided a guard of honour at his funeral.
He was heavily involved with Magpies and Sylvans as a player and official. Alf was also a long time referee (over 40 years), often wearing coloured kit (maroon) before the F.A. decreed it could only be black.
He would also often be out helping the groundsman at Springfield. Until about 15 months ago Alf was still the matchday announcer at Springfield where his regular half time music was military band marches.
His coffin was adorned with his Portsmouth F.C. scarf and trademark trilby and after his funeral on Tuesday 18th September 2018 his wake was fittingly held at Springfield.
One of four children living in St. Mark's Road in St. Helier. Twice married, firstly Barbara, nee Stout, a holidaymaker from Harrogate whom he met here in 1957. They married in 1960, lived at Trinity Hill and had three children, but eventually divorced. He re-married Molly and they lived at St. Clement with Molly dying in 2011. Four grandchildren, one great grandchild.
Numerous local football organisations and clubs were represented at his funeral.
