I missed that. So is that now 25 vacancies at step 5/6?
With the one appeal either outstanding or not reported.

Curious remark about the FA might refuse them permission to fold. They have far reaching powers but surely if a team have to fold no one can make them play?

It’s the definition of folding, that seems to have been pushed here! Haven’t the club just rebranded & moved to an U23’s league.

I was at the Harleston v Swaffham game on 4 August. I never saw an official figure, my my headcount/estimate of the crowd at that was 130.

Can someone explain how the promotion from Div One North/South works please? 2 teams are relegated from the Prem. Does that mean only the league winners are promoted? If so, why are those in 2nd place shown in yellow?
I'm sure there's a simple explanation.

Despite Division One South (or whatever its called) seemingly sitting under the Eastern Counites League Premier, it, in reality does not feed the Eastern Counties League Premier Division.

All 20 members of said division, are in the catchment area of the ECL's neighbour at Step 5 - the Essex Senior League.

And so whoever wins the division will go to the Essex Senior League, not the Premier Division of the league they are actually a member of.

This all came about due to the FA being coplete and utter retards. Div One South should of course be called the Essex Senior League Division One.

BUT its not and is part of a league that has no geographical link to it whatsoever,....because the FA is full of retarded morons.

The reason there is a yellow band covering the second placed sides in all Step 6 divisions is due to yet more retardation and brainless nonsense from the FA.

There are 14 Step 5 divisioons all relegating 2 clubs = 28

There are 19 Step 6 divisions. So Only 19 champion clubs and 9 runners up across the level can go up.

So instead of keeping relegation/promotion arrangements in-league, like they have been for over 100 years, we now have the utter garbage situation where Points Per Game across all 19 divisions is going to be used to work out which 9 runners up join the 14 champion clubs.

Yes the FA think its acceptable and practical to expect clubs playing in Somerset in the Wwestern League, who are battling for second spot to keep an eye of how the 2nd placed sides in all the other 19 divisions (some 100s of miles away) are doing to see if the 2nd placed finish in their own league will actually be enough for them to go up, or whether their place at Step 5 next season will go to a side in Cumbria or Lincolnshire or Kent!

Thats your answer in a nutshell. All nonsense but nonsense the clubs in question have to live with for now until someone grows some semblence of a brain in Wembley!

But under the old system second place in a Midlands League did not gain promotion but second in the Western did.

The new system has many faults but is slightly fairer

This problem is not due to “the FA being complete & utter retards” but to someone from the Eastern Counties League being determined to use the wrong name for the new league.
It is the Eastern Senior League (South) an independent Step 6 league with a different league committee made up of representatives from the Essex Senior League & Eastern Counties League.
It is administered by the Eastern Counties League because, as a result of their generous sponsorship, they have the resources to do.

Re: [Sarumio] Eastern Counties League 2018/19 [In reply to] Can't Post or Reply Privately

The way I see it, is the new rules are only temporary & will probably only exist for this season. At the end of next season, the FA will be creating the new step 4 league, two step 5 leagues & whatever they decide to do with step 6.
As for the promotions from step 6, there are a few unknowns that might mean a few more runners up being promoted.(Thamesmead folding, no SWPL sides accepting promotions, Hellenic & Northern League Step 5 relegation criteria. Any other clubs resigning or being demoted at step 5 & above).
I also agree with Mike, that the new system is a lot fairer. The only problem is with the leagues like the Western, Northern & Eastern Counties. If runners up aren’t promoted from these leagues. Then clubs from neighbouring league’s are going to be laterally moved & potentially face insane journeys. Whilst other step 5 leagues look like their footprints are shrinking.

Fairly simple answer to that. Midland and NCEL Prem both relegate bottom four, allowing all top two clubs in Midland One, WMRL1, EMCL and NCEL1 promotion to Step 5.

The nonsense we have now is beyond ridiculous for the level these clubs play at. Expecting supporters and even managers and players at clubs like AFC Stoneham, Chard Town and Broadfields United (three current 2nd placed sides at Step 6) to keep tabs on how the other 18 clubs at the same level of them throughout England are doing and having to draw up their own PPG tables is crazy. I can;t believe Level 10 clubs will have to do this.

I'll use some examples to make my point.

Imagine the confusion on the last day of the season. Not only waiting for the other games on your division to finish before you can celebrate runners up but waiting for the websites of 17 other leagues to be updated with final day results to celebrate promotion.

Heaven forbid your league finishing a week earlier than another of interest. AFC Stoneham players a week after having finished their season, waiting for Thornaby to finish their season 200 miles north of them to see whether they've gained promotion.

Thats just not right at this level. AFC Stoneham's fate shuld not be decided by a Northern League side hundreds of miles away a week later. It should be decided by where they finish in THEIR OWN league and nothing else.

These clubs shouldn't even have heard of each other - let alone actively keeping tabs on each other in this way!

But under the old system second place in a Midlands League did not gain promotion but second in the Western did.

The new system has many faults but is slightly fairer

Or putting it another way, the divisions below the Midland were more regionalised so the best 2 teams below both the Western and Midland step 5 leagues both got promoted. Now the 2nd best team in Western area may be denied by a team which might only be the 3rd or 4th best team in another area with regionalised divisions beneath it - maybe even likely in the case of divisions which rarely relegate like the Hellenic. Fairer? Not in my book.

Several fixtures have been re-scheduled following postponements for cup matches, weather etc. Those that have been released have been added to NLM. NLM and the ECL Full Time website are now aligned.

Added to this nonsense from the FA the ECL div 1 south as I call it will only promote the top team and maybe a second placed team on ppg game basis. Whereas before it had always been 3 up 3 down. What a shambles. And things were supposed to be better. Shameful.

And the top two clubs are likely to be White Ensign & Hashtag United?
From memory White Ensign had poblems entering the league due to their ground & Hashtag are not a proper club that will fold before Christmas!
Maybe the FA got some of their placements for this division correct. Not al thoughl, as the bottom of the table would testify!

White Ensign are rumoured to be returning to The Essex Olympian League next season and their traditional home at The Len Forge Centre, Eastwoodbury Lane. The reason is that apparently the pitch at Basildon Sports Village is too short for step 6 and has no chance of being lengthened. The Len Forge Centre is not up to step 6 due to the size of the dressing rooms and for being one sided as far as spectators are concerned.
Again, these are rumours but from a decent source.

Coupled with the doubts over those clubs at the threatened Terrence McMillan Stadium, it could be an interesting summer.

It beggars belief that a side could be allowed into a league where it's impossible to meet the ground grading regulations. But then I guess the same will happen if Stansted go up

White Ensign are in fact doing their current ground up. Just in case they’re promoted. So the rumour was wrong.

Good to hear, although somewhat strange as the rumour was from someone close to the club.

I see Harleston Town have got the go ahead for floodlights so that should negate any issues with ground grading.

As a step 6 side I thought they would already have had floodlights? Possibility that they'll be in step 5 next season too, where they are definitely needed.

The new clubs that joined the ECL last season, were given 3 years grace to get their grounds up to scratch.

Looks as though we were both wrong!! White Ensign announced last night they will be ground sharing at Great Wakering Rovers next season. They have played their last home match this season, so that ship has sailed for anyone who has yet to get to the Basildon Sporting Village. .
A good move for Ensign, much closer to their natural base and just as importantly, a decent pitch to play on.

Announced? I mentioned it on other threads at least twice over the last few weeks.
