Apparently they weren't! Team Northumbria have just quit the Northern League.

There is a parallel in Bristol, where Bristol University had a side last season in the Bristol & District League.

All players playing in the Bristol University Wednesday League were eligible to play for the University side; some 200 plus.

Given that they were unavailable to play on 8 Saturdays of the season because their players had gone home to various other parts of the UK it created chaos with fixtures.

As a result the team had to play nearly 20 games after 15 April. It created havoc with all the other clubs in their division and some nights they fielded two different XIs to get rid of the fixture chaos.

Also the players turned up in taxis that stayed the whole match, no doubt paid for by the University, and thus us as taxpayers.

They failed to attend a single league meeting and like Team Northumbria they were administered by a member of the University staff who was only available in office hours.

When I finally got hold of the administrator to state that our match was postponed due to snow, his reply was that he had no contact numbers for the players.

It is not surprising that the University of Bristol is not playing Saturday football in 2018-19.

Leyton Athletic FC (formerly Wadham Lodge) have now been moved into the Essex Senior League. That step 5 league will now run with 20 teams and the Eastern Senior League Div 1 (south) will run with 19.

Sensible decision.

So two teams playing at the same ground have both changed their names, must be some sort of record.

Obvious decision which should have been made when Romania were allocated to Step 4. Let's hope there is good news to come for the Hellenic and Northern.

Lets hope so.
The Hellenic still seem to expect/hope that the LC will give them a club from somewhere.
Not sure where the Northern league are with their thinking.
Website says the withdrawal will be discussed later in the month.

The FA has agreed at a meeting with the SWPL. That that league is a special case, clubs can request ‘not to go up’ based on travel & finances. So as far as I can see, only 18 step 6 champions will be promoted. With the 19th SWPL champions unlikely to be in a position to accept promotion. Then either 10 or 12 best runners up on a ppg basis, from those 18 step 6 leagues be promoted. The FA standardised rules state that if all the runners up are promoted, then the FA will reprieve the best 2nd bottom step 5 sides on a ppg basis. So we may only be 6 resignations, demotions, folds, failing ground grading. Before we actually see this scenario happening!
