FA Cup 5th Round replays to be scrapped Can't Post or Reply Privately

The FA council reached a deal to play the FA Cup fifth round in midweek without replays from 2019/20. There will still be replays in the third and fourth rounds. This is to allow the PL to introduce a 2 week Winter break, although the weekends at the beginning and end of this Winter break will still be used to allow televised matches.

Another kick in the teeth for the FA Cup.

As the EPL clubs don't want to play in the Cup, why not play the competition without them?

Rochdale's 5th Round replay against Spurs was a major financial boost for the club, which they wouldn't have had if replays had been scrapped already.

It will be the Premier League clubs that are driving this change so maybe they should agree to greater prize money in earlier rounds and lower prize money for reaching the QF and beyond.

Not only that but the 5th Round to be played midweek according to sky sports http://www.skysports.com/...-agreed-in-principal

The article also states that it the winter break will be staggered so all teams get a 13 day break whilst still ensuring continuous English Premier League
games.

Only the Premier League could come up with a non winter break, winter break, and only the English FA could agree to disregard tradition and agree to it.

Assuming the FA Cup 3rd Round is played on 5th Jan 2020 the 4th Round would normally be played 3 weeks later on the 26th. This would be at the start of the 2 week Winter break or in the middle, either way the 4th Round would have to be moved to either to Jan 19 or Feb 9, so how can the PL have league fixtures at the the start and and of this break?

Another option, and one that FA have used before and were widely criticised for, is to bring the 3rd Round forward to Dec 15 which leaves no room for replays, Christmas Day replay anyone? In the end tthis will lead to a fixture backlog with PL complaining because they are playing too many games at the end of the season.

With the FA Cup final probably on May 17 in 2020, (Champions League on May 24) the 2019/20 season is going to be compact. Euro 2020 begins on June 12

Who said the EPL clubs donít want to play in the FA Cup?

The pointless League Cup yes I agree they could do without it but then again couldnít we all.

Replays are a waste of time and should be consigned to history, they should be scrapped from every round.

Let's just flip a coin and do away with the football altogether!

Itís just progress my friend, the League Cup used to be two legs & subsequent rounds had replays but is now just a one and done.

FA Cup replays are poorly attended despite cheap tickets in most instances and some of the distances travelled midweek in the early Non league rounds are ridiculous. I once attended a midweek game between Godalming & Bodmin which the home team won 5-1 in front of about 50 people if memory serves me right.

No problem with just one game if both teams agree, but not by FA diktat.

I dont know the exact figures but i wouldnt be surprised if they had earned at least £1million from that replay

Huge for a club like Rochdale

I'd suggest making it a rule where for ties between 2 Premier League clubs, there are no replays in any round.

The only slight issue is the extra replay money that gets distributed to non league clubs who make the 1st round proper.
