John Lambie (Falkirk, St. Johnstone, Partick Thistle, Hamilton Academical) Can't Post or Reply Privately

John Lambie has died, aged 77.

He played for Whitburn, Falkirk and St. Johnstone.

Legendary manager of Partick Thistle (x3), as well as Hamilton and Falkirk.

A pigeon fancier and erstwhile SNP candidate in council elections.

A documentary filmed in the Firhill dressing room, as Lambie motivated the team, is believed to hold the world record for the use of the bleeper.

Famed for his advice to the club physio after Colin McGlashan had taken a head knock:

Physio "Boss, he's groggy, he doesn't know who he is."

Lambie: "Brilliant. Slap him in the face wi' that f*****' wet sponge and tell him he's f*****' Pele."

The word 'gallus' could have been invented for him.

John didn't actually play for Whitburn - his registration there was one of the 24-hour reinstatement dodges that were typical of the time.

His first managerial experience was with Stirling University in the early 1970s when they played in the Scottish Combined Reserve League.

His brother, Duncan, was a fine player with Dundee, SpVgg Furth, St Johnstone and Hibernian - he died a few months ago.
