100% behind the death penalty but the fact he wanted to die years ago was reason enough to keep him alive.

Hope he rots in hell.

My thoughts are with the families of his victims, such as Winnie Johnson who will now never know where her son is buried.

Sad that some Twitter trolls are already on the scene:

JadeHolly(@jadeclarke20) comments 'Ian Brady is dancing in hell with Maggie.'

Cannot even compare the two, a disgusting comment by an odious member of the Human Race.

I believe Winnie Johnson passed away a few years ago but any other family members gave up hope a long long time ago that they would get the answers that they have wanted for decades.

Winnie Johnson did indeed die a few years ago with Brady taunting her on her deathbed, not that she was aware, with hints that he may have remembered where her son was buried.
This case, or its aftermath, was something I grew up with, with Ann West, the mother of Lesley-Ann Downey, at one time living five minutes walk away from me. Maybe because of that local connection, or maybe objectively, especially with a woman being involved, it has seemed the most notorious case of my lifetime.
The death penalty is still wrong, though, as mistakes have been and would be made.

Exactly, anybody comparing a child killer to a democratically elected prime minister really is deluded.

It could of course be argued that Thatcher killed more people (indirectly) and caused more misery than the obnoxious Brady.

That's a reasonable arguemnt to make. The deaths which could be attributed to Thatcher are the 1,000 who died during the Falklands War, plus the many veterans from that conflict who have since committed suicide. (Tony Blair is often blamed for a far bigger death toll in the Iraq war, but the US would have invaded anyway even without the UK's support.) Of course, if Argentina had just invaded the unpopulated West Falkland and left East Falkland alone, then all these deaths would have been avoided and Argentina might still be in control of the eastern half today.

So by this logic Margaret Thatcher is worse than Jimmy Savile who (as far as I'm aware) didn't actually kill anybody?

Whatever you think of Thatcher she was democratically elected, comparisons to child killers/abusers are as ridiculous as they are distasteful.

I agree it's very distasteful, although the fact that someone has won an election does not mean they are a good person!

Back on topic, though, the coroner is only prepared to release Brady's body for cremation if the ashes are not scattered on Saddleworth Moor. That must surely be in response to a request from Brady to do just that, which seems to be in line with the controlling aspects (which include wanting to starve himself to control his own death) of a psychopathic personality and cause further upset to his victims.

The nearest sewer would surely be the best place for Brady's ashes? In his warped mind it would have been a final insult to the Bennett family.

The story about Brady wanting his ashes to be scattered on Saddleworth Moor may be a tabloid invention. I did read a more credible-sounding report elsewhere that he wanted to be cremated in Scotland as that was where he was born.

By the way, has anyone noticed a curious technical problem with this thread? The list of threads keeps showing that no replies have been posted on to this particular one - this is rather odd, as there hasn't been thsi problem elsewhere on the forum. Somtheing for the mods to look into?

Yes I had noticed that, strange!

There was another story about Bradys ashes being scattered somewhere in Glasgow but apparently that won't be happening either. Why not bury his ashes in the grounds of Ashworth, he can stay there forever.

According to one news report I saw, the leader of Glasgow City Council (perhaps hoping to boost his chances of being re-elected) had made it clear to the city's two crematoriums that they should not have anything to do with Brady's remains. Whoever the leader is, he/she is an idiot who hasn't realised that they could, in theory, be prosecuted for preventing a lawful and decent burial. Brady has to be cremated somewhere, and if his will has specified that he is to be cremated in Glasgow, then that wish should be adhered to.

Brady's body is still in the mortuary along with another monster as undertakers refuse to touch them.
