Ynysygerwn of the Neath District League won again this evening, and are looking good for a top two position. Their Tweeter feed says that they have their final Welsh League inspection on Saturday.

Looks like it could be three new clubs in the Welsh League next season (Ynysygerwn, Trethomas Bluebirds and Trefelin / Sully Sports?), so with two coming down from the Welsh Premier, that will be six relegated from Welsh League Division 3 this May.

How do you even pronounce that. There is a village in Wales called Ysbyty Ystwyth, the 1st, 2nd and the 4th Y is pronounced "UH", and the 3rd and 5th Y is pronounced "EE" I think.

Do Ynysygerwn play at the old BP Llandarcy/Neath ground?

For Ynysygerwn try un-is-uh-ge-roon (ge as in 'get')

This season they have been playing first team games at Llandarcy and reserves and thirds at their own pitch in the village.
I assume they plan to carry on like this.

In Welsh, W and Y are vowel sounds.

Welsh League forum stating that Ynysygerwn passed their ground grading, but that Team Swansea from the Swansea Senior League also passed. This sets up the possibility of a play-off for the West Wales promotion position in the Welsh League.
Talk about London buses! Most years West Wales doesn't submit an applicant, and this year there are two!

Interestingly Team Swansea can only finish second . Penlan have won the Swansea League.

Are there any implications from this in relation to any potential play off?
Do champions get preferential treatment?

Re: [Barbie] Ynysygerwn [In reply to] Can't Post or Reply Privately

Unfortunately the rules are not on the new Welsh League website however the old one is still around and rule 5 states
The clubs from the feeder leagues will become automatic members of the league provided they are declared the champions and have obtained the required standard code of facilities. The runner up in a feeder league will also be eligible for consideration if the champion clubs do not meet the standard code of facilities.
In West Wales there are 4 leagues entitled to send a team to the Welsh League Ynysygerwn (Neath) and Team Swansea (Swansea) have applied
In view of the fact they are different leagues my reading is that both teams by finishing first or second are eligible. It does not say that if there is only one champion they will be promoted.

won last night against 3rd place Ystradgynlais and cannot finish lower than second. Trefelin only need a point to win the South Wales Alliance. Sully are the only team that can reach their total of 64

Re: [T P Johnson] Ynysygerwn [In reply to] Can't Post or Reply Privately

Team Swansea now guaranteed second position in the Swansea Senior League and Ynysygerwn guaranteed to finish first or second in the Neath League, which one probably depending on their last match against Giants Grave on May 24th.

If there is going to be a play-off for West Wales promotion it will need to be on May 28th, or we're looking at June again, like the South Wales FA play-off last season.

Re: [T P Johnson] Ynysygerwn [In reply to] Can't Post or Reply Privately

According to Ynysygerwn's website here;

http://www.clubwebsite.co.uk/...afc/News/view/918114

If Ynysygerwn win the Neath League, they will qualify for the Welsh League without the need for a play off. If they finish second they will play off against Team Swansea on Tuesday May 31st, at Old Road, Briton Ferry. Whether they win the Neath League depends largely upon the result of their away match against Giants Grave on Tues May 24th.

Giants Grave need to win at Glynneath on Saturday to take the title and force Ynysygerwn into second place and a play-off against Team Swansea for the Welsh League place.

Ynysygerwn defeated Team Swansea in the Welsh League play off this evening, 3-1, and therefore take the West Wales promotion place into next year's Welsh League.
