Black Friday Can't Post or Reply Privately

Will anyone partake?

Is it a good idea or not ?

Will I get accused of racism and bigotry ?

You calling me gullible, I am fully aware of the tactics used by shops and have my eyes on a couple of things , both of which I am aware of the RRP and will keep my eyes wide open.
Thanks for the vote of confidence .

Well one out of 2 acquired.
Pretty good value, yes Steve I appreciate it was left over stock they wanted to get rid of, but it was what I wanted.
About £100 cheaper than on Amazon/E Bay so I'm happy.

Now for Cyber Monday.

I think it is a good thing especially if, like you say, there is a specific item you are interested in.I have been targeting power tools and there are some great deals to be had on some top brand names.

Been in a very well known large High Street store today, they had loads of things marked down but all seemed to be last years models. If you want a TV that is soon to be or already is out of date there are bargains out there.

Also had a look online on another well known stores website as someone wanted a new freezer, they had limited stocks at vastly reduced prices but had a delivery time of up to 4 weeks if available. They had one reduced to £99.99 which suited the bill, strangely when I had to buy a new fridge the other week the said freezers normal price was £99.99.

I might look myself later then. I had £2500 worth of tools nicked out of my van a couple of months ago and have been gradually replacing them since.
I actually bought some prime oak worktop from Worktop Express ( based in Gloucester)today ( 4m lengths required so Howdens no good) . Believe it or not they did a Black Friday deal on them and I saved a few hundred quid . They were cheaper per 4m length than Howdens 3m lengths were during Howdens' October sale !
More than pleased ! Oh, and they are already on the wagon to be delivered Monday pm!

It is like Halloween and elected police and crime commissioners. A stupid American idea we don't want. I never want to buy anything badly enough to scrap in an unseemly fashion in a supermarket aisle.

I understand in America it is the day after thanksgiving and therefore people are off work unlike here.

We'll probably be celebrating thanksgiving in UK before too long!!

Good to see the British malaise in action once more.....The antipathy to anything
new in this country is mind boggling really.

Nobody is being forced into shops to buy stuff - just go on line, there's plenty of
bargains to be had and even more so this time of year.

Halloween has become massive here in the past few years...only third behind
Christmas and Easter as a retail event I believe.

Anything that boosts the economy is fine by me...

And note Yatesman not a hint of racism .......

The original pilgrim fathers from the village in Derdyshire , Scroby, went to Amsterdam in search of religious freedom, via Boston. From Amstersdan they travelled to Leiden which had always had a festival of thanksgiving to celebrate the harvest.

When they finally arrived in the Americas via Falmouth and Plymouth they named the new territory New Amsterdam , ie New York, and the festival of thanksgiving was reborn in the new world. Thanksgivibg was ripped off from the Dutch originally.

So what goes around comes around. Like most things American it was born in Europe.

As for retailing I bought a pair of strides in Dublin today for €25 reduced from € 70. Black Friday just another retailers ploy to entice more punters through the door.

The shops have had offers on all week, Argos said their prices won't be lower on black Friday.
I only bought one item today, the outdoors shop called Yeomans had a jacket from £30 down to £10.
To be honest I needed a new jacket anyway, I am not buying a TV because I have one that works just fine.

Surprisingly that's how the free market works....

Interesting thread and I've managed not to offend anyone.

I've concluded that, even though there are genuine bargains to be had, Black Friday simply encourages too many people to buy things they don't need, with money they don't have to impress people they don't like! ( I love a cliché)
btw DQ , I wish it was still the '70's . I was a teenager, football was genuinely competitive, there was no Political Correctness and we still had friends in the Middle East
