Re: [ArchieB] Scottish Junior Cup 2014-5 [In reply to] Can't Post or

Weather forecast permitting, I hope to attend my first ever game in this competition on Sept 27th. The only obvious 'small club' v. 'big club' tie is Colony Park v. Clydebank although there will be others. I know that some Junior clubs only issue programmes for games in this competition so that will be my deciding criteria. Does anyone have any good tips in this respect? I note that there are two games in Dundee so (without checking ground locations) it might be possible to walk from one to the other in search of a programme.

Four games in Dundee. Downfield and Lochee United are also from Dundee.

Lochee United's Thomson Park is a belter. East Craigie and North End would be within walking distance.

I'm not very known with the Juniors, but are there good derbies or matches played at brilliant old grounds this round? I've only visited six Juniors grounds at the moment, but none of the clubs are at home.

Cambuslang is a classic old ground and opponents Irvine Meadow are always one of the stronger sides in the competition.

Cambuslang is seconded. Work to improve some of the terracing was ongoing when I went there in March.

Arthurlie is another ground with plenty of terracing.

For non-league fan and other paper chasers, here's the programme chances:

Aberdeen University v Kirkcaldy YMCA - no idea but seems unlikely
Annbank United v Stoneywood - haven't issued for donkeys years
Arthurlie v Hall Russell United - almost always issue
Bonnyrigg Rose v Inverness City - mebbes aye mebbes naw
Cambuslang Rangers v Irvine Meadow XI
- almost always issue
Colony Park v Clydebank - never previously issued as far as I am aware
Cruden Bay v Tayport - issued regularly a few years ago, not sure if they still do
Downfield v Vale of Leven - stopped issuing around ten years ago
Dundee East Craigie v Hill of Beath - what's a programme?
Dundee North End v Kello Rovers - last issued c.1992
East Kilbride Thistle v Johnstone Burgh - quite often issue
Ellon United v Carluke Rovers - have been known to issue for Cup ties but not always
Falkirk Juniors v Islavale
- quite often issue
Forth Wanderers v Dufftown - quite often issue
Glentanar v Kelty Hearts - another who have been known to issue for Cup ties but not regularly
Harthill Royal v Darvel - extremely unlikely to issue
Hermes v Petershill - might well do one for this as it's a big team they are playing
Kilsyth Rangers v Blairgowrie - very unlikely to issue
Kilwinning Rangers v New Elgin
- almost always issue
Lanark United v Penicuik Athletic - sometimes do a one-off for Cup ties
Lochee United v Muirkirk - highly unlikely to issue
Oakley United v Jeanfield Swifts - might offer to do one for them myself, they last issud in 2002
Parkvale v Rosyth - unlikely
Renfrew v Ballingry Rovers
- almost always issue
St Anthony`s v Ardrossan Winton Rovers - almost always issue
St Rochs v Lochgelly Albert - only ever seen one St Rochs programme, a Testimonial from 1986
Scone Thistle v Newtongrange Star
- issued regularly at the end of last season, hopefully still doing so
Shettleston v Ardeer Thistle - nae chance
Sunnybank v Glenrothes - very unlikely
Thornton Hibs v Ashfield
- might offer to do one for them myself, they last issued in 2007
Tranent v Edinburgh United - not impossible that they will issue, but unlikely
Whitehills v Lochee Harp - only ever issued one programme which I did for them back in 2007 against Benburb
Wishaw v Sauchie
- almost always issue

One update to Prorege's list of issuers. Whitehills issued against Renfrew back in 2001. I believe that was their first issue.

As Renfrew editor, I can almost guarantee that we will issue against Ballingry Rovers.

It would be great if Colony Park and St Rochs were to issue for their ties but I wont be holding my breath.

For those travelling through Scotland on September 27th, it is worth remembering that this is Ryder Cup weekend at Gleneagles.

There will be wholesale changes to train services north of Stirling to accommodate many special trains running to Gleneagles. Traffic on the A9 around Gleneagles also likely to be severely disrupted.

Teams travelling from North to South and vice-versa would be well advised to leave a lot of extra time for their journeys.

Note that Inverurie Locos, literally next door to Colony Park, have a Home Highland League fixture that same afternoon (3pm, vs Forres Mechancs). Colony Park would surely prefer to avoid clashing with that.
So - possibly a lunchtime KO if Clydebank agree? (although even if Clydebank accept, Locos might object - they have an active Social Club that they want pre-match punters to be spending in).
Or even a chance of this one going to the Sunday?...

May consider Livingston United v. Shotts as I recall reading somewhere on here that they often issue for Junior Cup ties. I understand that nearby Blackburn United are regular issuers anyway so these two may be worth a try and from looking at the train timetables it should be possible to get back to London the same day (assuming 2.30pm kick-offs with no extra time, as in the first round.)

If it rains a lot then there seem to be two ties on synthetic turf (according to sticky thread) at Port Glasgow and Carluke Rovers although I wouldn't know be confident about programmes at these two and if any rain was confined to the north I could stay down south anyway. In the case of Carluke it would probably be necessary to run for the 16.41 train which is the last connecting service for London.

Blackburn would be a certain programme. Livingston a bit hit or miss. The have issued on occasions for Cup ties but not always. Port Glasgow and Carluke would be unlikely.

Arthurlie and Beith would be good choices for programmes and are both decent grounds.

Bathgate and Dalkeith are issuing regularly this season.

At least one very regular producer, Cambuslang Rangers, have stopped this season.

Cheers, prorege. I've been looking at the PM you sent me (in June) which listed last season's regular issuers and Beith are indeed on it, although neither Arthurlie or Cambuslang are. I've also had another look at the train timetables and Beith should be OK for getting back to London by train although (unlike some of the more accessible clubs) I would have to change trains at Birmingham.

Unfortunately, a WDYG post for Saturday 18th October said that Beith have ceased issuing this season, probably due to the editor leaving and there being no-one to replace him. I'm still looking at going to a SJC tie next Saturday but it will probably be in Edinburgh rather than Glasgow as the weather looks drier there, if a bit cold. Possibly Bathgate or Livingston Utd (if issuing) or Blackburn.

Bathgate and Blackburn have both issued programmes this season.

Bathgate is by far the better ground. However, Beith trumps them both being a former Scottish League ground and having one of the biggest slopes around.

Livingston would be hit or miss programme-wise. Last one I've actually seen was from 1996 but they were reported to have issued something for a Cup tie last season. They were in the Premier League last season but have really slumped after relegation. I've been there 15+ times and never got a programme.
