According to my man in Notts it was to do with ground grading. The changing rooms block is half finished and they've run out of money to complete it.

So are Sutton Town folding again - or will they be accepted into the Central Midlands League or Nottinghamshire Senior League? Why was this ground grading problem not picked up earlier? If they are folding then there is more to it than the ground but if it is then yes this should have been picked up earlier!

I undestand that ground tenure was also involved in the decision to tender their resignation from the League. Perhaps they were trying to resolve the matter and didn't want to announce it in case they succeeded.

Probably because the last time they were graded the old changing room block met the requirements? Snipes Considering Future After League Resignation The future of Sutton Town AFC is up in the air after the club resigned from the East Midland Counties League last night. The drastic move came with the club unable to come to a suitable agreement over a lease at home ground The Fieldings that would enable them to get promoted in the future, which is a league requirement. A club spokesman said: "Due to the fact that Mansfield Hosiery Mills were unable to give an acceptable agreement to Sutton Town AFC to comply with league and FA requirements on tenure of the ground to compete at Step 6 of the pyramid, Sutton Town have had no alternative but to resign from the East Midland Counties League." Manager Dean Short resigned at the end of last season in May. The club now have the option of trying to join another league which would allow them to continue at The Fieldings, but the problem would remain that the Snipes would not be eligible for promotion under the terms of their current lease.

I believe the ground owners Mansfield Hosiery Mills Sports Club will be operating their own club this season, I hear in the Midland Amateur Alliance. It seems to me that their fixtures will take precedence, and this will not be in accordance with the Pyramid rules where the fixtures of the higher placed ground sharing club has the priority. Consequently Sutton could not fulfil this condition. I know some of the MHM committee from my working days, and it would not surprise me if they had said, 'our ground, our team, our precedence' and told Sutton to accept a lease on the ground on those terms or clear off. I hasten to add that this is pure speculation on my part but it does seem to fit the circumstances.

To Sarumio, now you mention it yes they did, but I don't know whether they used the main MHM ground, and if they did the terms of Sutton's lease will have protected them. With the lease up for renewal the MHM Sports Club will probably have changed the terms in favour of their own club. Again let me stress that I am putting two and two together and may be making five, but the probability is that I'm not far wide of the mark. Changes were certainly made which Sutton found unacceptable. The ironic thing is that if I had not retired from the local rag I would almost certainly have been covering this story. I don't know whether the Snipes have applied to any other league. There was nothing in the press report to say either way. But their manager last season is now our assistant boss.

I don't know if this has been considered but could n't Sutton use Blackwell MW's ground which I don't think hosts senior football or any Saturday football since they sadly folded a couple of years ago? Yes it's a different (better ) county but only 5 mins down the road. Still listed in Vase draw at the mo as well. I could see Sutton actually sustaining a Northern Premier side (potential wise) but they always seem to be dogged by problems of one sort or the other

I think Sutton Town's problems can be traced all the way back to 1977 when the owners of the Priestsic Road Football Ground forced them off and sold it for a supermarket (ASDA) development.

All the league need to do now is get the relevant forms sent out to the clubs so they can bring in players. Are the forms not downloadable from the League Web site? They were not last Saturday.
