Forum changes Can't Post or Reply Privately

I've made a few small forum changes, mainly just moving them around the categories so that they make more sense and creating a new Information category.

For instance I have moved the Where are you going / did you go threads into general discussion as it's not just a ground hoppers who go to games and it might encourage more posters. I've merged a couple of forums where they overlapped and one didn't get posted in so much and created a couple of new ones for Club Offers and Plugs to try and keep these away from the Discussion Forums.

Feel free to have a good moan about the changes here Tongue

No probs with the changes BUT would it be an idea to move Administration further down to the bottom, and keep the Groundhopping section following the discussion threads? So the order might be Discussion, Groundhopping, Info, then the rest?

The "All Other FA Competitions" sections needs to be renamed "All Other Cups" or something similar as the bulk of threads in there are now no longer FA Competitions

Well personally the current category sort order seems logical. There's the admin section that contains general stuff about the site, followed by general non league discussion and info, followed by the more specialised categories. There is a lot of interest in ground hopping on this forum so it makes sense to put that category at the top of the 'specialised' ones.

I would however like to attract more non league fans to the forum discussion threads or contribute to the information threads and they won't necessarily be ground hoppers (is it one word or two? I never know! ground hopping or groundhopping??) More non league fans posting makes the forum more interesting for everyone.

It's no big deal. If enough forum users want the category order changing then I will change it, not a problem.

It looks good to me Steve. I think it's just a case of getting used to where everything is, sort of like when you come home and find the missus has has a change round of the furniture. Cool

Just a wee thing.

There was quite a long thread on the now-defunct (the irony!) "Other British Isles Football" subforum about the fate of Rangers FC. I think it'd ran to about 50 pages or something. Anything things have got serious at Ibrox again today with the publication of a dire business review, announcement that the club hasn't got any credit facilities with banks (season tickets can be renewed in cash only), and redundancies to follow this afternoon.

Having gone to put this on the thread, it is in "Other British Isles Football" which is archived-only, without the facility to post.

Given the "Premiership & Football League" subforum has been retained, is there a reason this one wasn't?

There were two 'Other British Isles Football' forums for no apparent reason. One of them didn't posted in too much so that's the one that was archived. The other is alive and well in the discussion section.

I have moved the Rangers thread into it so that you can add posts. It's on page 2 currently as it didn't get posted in for 2 weeks.

I think it would be a good idea if there was a Skrill Premier section and then another section for the lower league teams.

May I suggest calling the two sections FA Cup Competitions and Other Cup Competitions, and moving all posts for cup competitions organised by the FA to the first of these two sections.

Re: [hawkwind] Forum changes [In reply to] Can't Post or Reply Privately

Most of the posts on the other cup competitions, including the FA ones are the regular updates of results, while the big three FA competitions generate regular discussion, so I think we have the right mix between threads.

We do not do much club orientated discussion on here, and I tend to move threads such as "Thatcham Town manager leaves" to Shameless plugs or special offers and promotions (the latter if a game is advertised). This is to avoid clutter on the main section, which should be sections where people want to discuss in detail.

I am not certain we have international items correct. I would consider scrapping the International hopping, moving any general threads to Football in other Countries and match reports to where did you go.

We can certainly look at restructuring these sections for 2014/15 so any suggestions from forum users on this thread are welcomed and hopefully we can come up with a solution that isn't too cluttered and keeps most people happy.

If 'International Hopping' reports can still cover the whole trip and not need to be linked to one specific date then that would be a possibility. I would definitely prefer not to search through loads of specific dates just to find reports on, say, Sweden.

Better, though, might be for the hopping reports to be included under 'Football in Other Countries'. That way people who are interested would know where to look and people who have no interest in non-UK football would know where to avoid.

They'd probably swamp all other content in that sub-forum

No doubt they would, but that would be preferable (for me) to them being swamped in the WDYG section.

Given the choice of all options I would vote for things staying as they are.
