The teams for the inaugural Nations League (League A) finals is now know and England have a great chance of lifting the silverware, first major trophy since 1966. At least England should get a top 4 finish.

The feeling of utter devastation when you pick up your mug and realise you already finished your tea.

The Nations League Finals are scheduled for June 5-9

The Champions League Final is on June 1 so there could potentially be a few absentee players from the semi finals at least

Just because you're paranoid, it doesn't mean they're not out to get you.

An update with one round of matches to go of how the Euro 2020 qualifying seeding currently looks (those in CAPITALS are 100% certain)
Pot 1: BELGIUM, Croatia, England, FRANCE, ITALY, NETHERLANDS, Poland, PORTUGAL, SPAIN, SWITZERLAND
Pot 2: AUSTRIA, BOSNIA & HERZEGOVINA, Czech Republic, DENMARK, Germany, ICELAND, RUSSIA, SWEDEN, UKRAINE, WALES
Pot 3: Bulgaria, FINLAND, IRELAND, Israel, NORTHERN IRELAND, Norway, Scotland, SERBIA, Slovakia, TURKEY
Pot 4: ALBANIA, CYPRUS, ESTONIA, Georgia, Greece, Hungary, LITHUANIA, MONTENEGRO, Romania, SLOVENIA
Pot 5: ARMENIA, AZERBAIJAN, Belarus, Faroe Islands, Gibraltar, Kazakhstan, Kosovo, LUXEMBOURG, Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, MOLDOVA
Pot 6: Andorra, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Malta, SAN MARINO

The last round of matches didn't change any of that.
https://www.uefa.com/...2576956.html?iv=true

Unless one or more teams qualify from the qualifiers instead, the semifinals will be:
League A: Switzerland (1) v England (4), Portugal (2) v Netherlands (3)
League B: Bosnia (13) v Sweden (16), Ukraine (14) v Denmark (15)
League C: Scotland (25) v Finland (28), Norway (26) v Serbia (27)
League D: Georgia (40) v Belarus (43), Macedonia (41) v Kosovo (42)

If any of the 4 teams in each path does not qualify directly, then that league playoff path cannot contain a higher level opponent. So if 9 league B teams qualify directly but at least one of Bosnia/Denmark/Sweden/Ukraine misses out, the extra team required would be from league C (currently Bulgaria). If Bosnia/Denmark/Sweden/Ukraine all qualify in those 9, then the extra team would come from group A - possibly drawn but could just be Switzerland with the next league A team joining the league A playoff path.

There'll be a draw for which semifinal pair gets to host the playoff final for that path. All playoff games are single leg.

Last new football ground (948) Baza Arcom Progresul Spartac 1-1 Unirea Bascov

On the agenda:
21/9 FC United v Warrington Town
24/9 Warrington Town v FC United

Re: [oftenscore6] UEFA Nations League [In reply to] Can't Post or Reply Privately

What should be a relatively simple draw, has been massively complicated by UEFA with the following restrictions:

1. Only two of the 12 host nations for 2020 can be drawn in the same qualifying group

2. There are five prohibited clashes that cannot happen;
Azerbaijan / Armenia
Russia / Ukraine
Gibraltar / Spain
Bosnia / Kosovo
Kosovo / Serbia

(Although 2 of those scenarios can’t happen now due to the seeding pots)

3. No more than two ‘hard winter’ countries can be drawn in the same group (Belarus, Estonia, Faroe Islands, Finland, Iceland, Latvia, Lithuania, Norway, Russia, Ukraine)

4. There are three teams with excessive travelling distances or restrictions (Kazakhstan, Iceland, Azerbaijan) each of these three has various teams which are considered excessive and can only have a maximum of one team from that list in its group.

Kazakhstan: 12 teams (including all British teams)
Iceland: 6 teams
Azerbaijan: 4 teams (Portugal, Malta, Iceland, Gibraltar)

I think it’s fair to say finding a group for Kazakhstan to play in is going to be rather limited.

The above four restrictions are ranked in priority order.

The draw is conducted in order from pots 1-6 (best teams first)

No doubt the ‘Benny Hill’ music will be playing whilst the original surviving cast of Soap opera Eldorado will be conducting the draw in Dublin, via satalite from the international space station.

The above is all nonsense

If we have to go out of our way to accommodate Kazakhstan, then maybe they should be moved to the better suited Asian Confederation.

Dont get the Winter countries scenario either and If Spain refuse to play Gibraltar, they should be kicked out of the competition but we all know the Uefa powers that be will never let that happen!

With Tottenham's dismal performances in Europe, Gareth Southgate won't have to worry about the availability of messrs Kane, Alli, Trippier or Dier. Unless of course Real Madrid buy any of these players in January.

Have the rules on being cup-tied changed then, beyond now being allowed to play for 2 teams in different competitions in the same season. I thought two different CL teams in the same season was still a no-no.

In defence of UEFA the restrictions mostly make sense to me.

1. Two of 12 host nations maximum in one group is to give a theoretical chance to achieve 100% direct qualification of the host nations.

2. Exactly the same list that UEFA currently use in ECL and Europa League draws. UEFA aren't imposing this condition through free choice, they're ensuring that their competitions can proceed with all members participating. Being pragmatic it's better to let the FAs and national governments of these countries decide when they're prepared to meet on the football field, rather than attempting to achieve that by force. If I remember correctly Georgia-Russia has come off the list fairly recently.

3. For logistic reasons as the last round of qualifying matches take place in November 2019. Although for this particular draw it would just about be possible to accommodate three of these teams even in a five team group that would seriously restrict possible fixture permutations. Note that none of these teams played a home match during this last week of Nations League matches.

4. Strictly speaking unnecessary but probably will allow the PR machine a little licence to trumpet a small insignificant contribution towards the fight against climate change.

Surprisingly Albania v. Serbia is not on the list of 'banned' matches. But I won't drone on about itSmile

Hard winter countries won't play home qualifiers in March or November. No more than 2 hard/medium winter countries can be drawn in the same group.

The four Nations League semi-finalists will be drawn into 5-team Euro 2020 qualifying groups (A-D) rather than the other groups, all of which (apart from Group E) will have six teams.

Portugal to win i suspect. Easier semi final and one extra day to prepare for the final.
