Was it a match in one of the European Cup, ECWC or Fairs Cup?

Yes

Just because you're paranoid, it doesn't mean they're not out to get you.

No, so 1961-65

Recap:

We seek a specific match in either the European Cup, ECWC or Fairs Cup

You'll need the reason I chose this match to score a goal

I chose it for reasons unrelated to the nationality of the officials of the match

The match took place in Europe between 1961-65, but did not occur in the UK

It involved sides from different countries, one side was from Northern Ireland or Wales

It didn't involve an English or a Scottish side

It didn't take place in a capital city

It didn't take place between May-August

It took place at a ground still in existence

Just because you're paranoid, it doesn't mean they're not out to get you.

I'll take a very wild guess at the Sliema Wanderers v Borough United CWC game, in the vain hope that the 15k attendance was a record for the Maltese side....

Swansea v Motor Jena, CWC 1961. Swans home game switched at thelast minute to Austria as East German nationals were forbidden to enter NATO countries at the time. Tickets for the Vetch had already been sold!

Goal!!!

Not much else to add. The match was a 2-2 draw and was played at the Linzer Stadion in Linz near(ish) the East German border. The second leg was played only a couple of days later in Jena and Swansea went out 7-3 on aggregate.

Newport County narrowly went out to the renamed Carl Zeiss Jena in the same competition in 1981.

Shot Paul. #599 is yours.
