Aberystwyth Town have a couple of sharp lawyers on their board of Directors.
One of them, while reading the Rules of the WPL in bed one night found a loophole in the contents. He discovered the rule which stated that if a club (Llanelli) did not finish the season then their opponents would lose the points gained against them. That is, all results to be expunged.
He quickly realised that Llanelli, although having completed their fixtures, were wound up in the High Court five days before the official end of the WPL season. He then calculated that if the points were deducted from clubs then Aberystwyth would be able to play off for a Europa League spot against Bala Town instead of Connah's Quay.
An immediate appeal was lauched with the WPL and FAW. On hearing this Newtown decided to join in the appeal.
The WPL told both clubs, 'no go' and if you don't like the decision then you take it further.
Aberystwyth were gung-ho and willing to go to court until their chairman, also a lawyer, called a halt saying: "We are withdrawing our appeal for the good of Welsh football."
So another saga was just avoided.
