No doubt about his pedigree re bastadisation...I gave it a go this pm while in the gym, watching the match with headphones on whie on a static bike. Five minutes in he was at it again, 'just past the goals'... Off came the headphones... How about a celebrity death match between him and Garth Crooks? With the winner to torture CJ from Eggheads to death slowly. I'm off for a lay down again

Southgate (or the editor) did the annoying no-no of effectively announcing the result to the Den-Port game half way thru the ITV highlights programme when he said Netherlands were still in the competition (ie Portugal must have won). Having missed both games I'd managed to avoid all broadcasts I was not pleased that Southgate had his "Flint" moment (and I'd locked the front-door !!)..

Just on Sky Sports News (presenter talking to Guillem Balague re Michael Laudrup joining Swansea City): "Well, Swansea ARE the Barcelona of England!" Okay.
Just a note to anyone who is wondering, I am no longer a moderator of this forum due to current personal circumstances and work commitments. If you need help, contact leohoenig or Steve walker. Thank You.

Croatia V Spain. Croatia bring on a substitute who we are reliably informed won the double in the season just ended, with Borussia Dortmund, in ITALY. Later it goes back to the studio where the experts were able to tell ignorant old me that an effort from a Croatian header was the easiest chance of the match. I'd have thought the tap in from 6 yards for the only goal of the game was perhaps a tad easier.

Someone ought to tell Jim Beglin what constitutes foul play. Twice, early on, Greek players committed clear fouls against the Germans, one of them ought to have been at least a caution. Beglin's reaction: 'I think the ref. was bit harsh there'

Mick McCarthy after the Spain V surrender monkeys game declared that we want to see Spain beaten, because we are sick of the same team winning all the time. I mean Mick, we don't want quality and techincal brilliance to come out on top do we? Also Mick, don't tell the rest of your media buddies, this attitude certainly won't spread to the media darlings (Brazil) & their referee when the World Cup next comes around.

Not sport but the BBC weatherman tonight said, "There will be hailstones in the midlands though they'll be hit and miss."

Just bumping this one back up... With the Olympic opening ceremony, Hazel Irvine on the introduction of the Mexico athletes mentioned that that they have a footballer with the marvellously named "Hulk" in their squad . Played it back on iPlayer just to check again.Thought Hazel was pretty knowledgeable, but obviously football is not her subject.

I watched the Olympic men's cycling road race just before kick off and at half time at Bilston Town's psf with Tywyn/Bryncrug. Atrocious coverage with bias to Cavendish and the British team. In a field that large it was if no one else had entered or had a chance of winning. Commentator got placings all wrong. Kazakh winner interviewed and questions were about the British team. I've always wondered why they can't use GPS transmitters to show where everyone is in the race.

British commentators showing bias towards GB riders shock. Chris Boardman and Hugh Porter were frustrated at the poor show by the BBC. No on screen info and they were as much in the dark as the riders. Yes, Cav was expected to win but although he didn't have a divine right to the gold medal, many of the field appeared to be happy to finish outside the top three, rather than give themselves or GB a chance.
FA Vase semi programme wanted: 2001 Taunton v Clitheroe.

Radio 5 on my way home this evening - GB only need a draw because they have a better goal difference (than Uruguay). And I thought they had a point in hand!!

I switched 5 Live on today and Colin Murray was on. That is a mistake - he's no sports presenter in my book.
Where's the 'ignore this poster' button?

another Mens Olympic football cock-up; when the Brazilian substitutes were announced and put on the big screen before the game against Belarus at OT, one of their subs was no less than JAMES TOMKINS-good Brazilian name; this was amanded at half-time.

Not really a mistake but.... GL " Do you think you will competing in Rio in 4 years ?" Ben Ainslie " I don't know - will you still be presenting MOTD in 4 years time Gary ?" The look on Lineker's face was priceless.
