Why should I support him? It's as if he's representing his country..it's an indivdual players tournament.

He was the one who said 'Anyone but England' but then backtracked & said it was a joke. Totally spineless. I'd have had a bit of respect for him if he'd laughed & admitted 'what do you expect me to say, I'm Scottish', or something similar.

Tennis is just a minority middles class dominated sport where the authorities have no real desire to expand it to the masses (& thus working class youngsters).

Hope he loses, but couldn't give a toss if he wins. Bit of an oxymoron is he does, as he will then be a shoe-in for the BBC Sports 'Personality' of the Year, even at this early stage of 2011!

Re: [Mishi] Andy Murray [In reply to] Can't Post or Reply Privately

Got a nasty feeling it could be third time unlucky for Murray on Sunday. He goes into the final the least rested of the two players and faces a player in inspired form. I'd love to be proved wrong and he does have a chance Djoko only has the one slam under his belt and does not have the aura of Federer or Nadal. I still live in hope that the 70+ year wait for a British male winner of a grand slam could finally be over.

There's more than a touch of reality in what you say, in that if tennis were not shown on television, then nobody would give a tinker's cuss about who won or lost in a tennis competition. There are many other "sports" that have been highjacked by the TV and have drawn in a public who think that sport does not exist outside of the television screen.

Football seen in: Scotland (268 grounds), England (969), Germany (289), Sweden (208), Netherlands (67), Wales (27), Ireland (S&N)(23/4), Austria (9), France (6), Denmark(5), Belgium(3),Italy(2), Luxembourg (2), Spain (2), Liechtenstein, Jersey, Switzerland, Canada

Well I hope he wins and good on him for not cow-towing to the press and giving them all the crappy smarm they want and got from the likes of Toothless Tim.

I think Djokovic is in the form of his life though, moreso since he inspired Serbia to the Davis Cup.

What happened to the Tim Henman who was disqualified from Wimbledon in 1995 for smashing a ball into a ball-girl's face?

PS Cow-towing a new Highland game?

I thought we were looking at another poster for whom Stourbridge was going to be off limits.

His volleying skills improved a bit as he got older.

I wouldn't like to comment too much on Highland folk and their ways, though they certainly are weird bastards.

All his tennis education from age about 13 anyway was in Spain.
Tennis seems to attract surly charmless stars -Billie Jean King, Ivan Lendl, Martina Navratilova. And of course my all time sporting hate (well other than MAN U players) Jimmy Connors.

That goes a long way to explaining why he's reached 3 grand slam finals so far, despite the fact he's yet to win one. I think it's only a matter of time before he does win one. Do I care? No. I'm neither for or against him.

It's worrying that posters like this one choose to believe what they want to believe and totally disregard the facts.

For the uninformed (deliberate or otherwise) - an article written by the journalist who first wrote about Murray's comments.
