sack Hughton.

You'd think that after their last spell in the Premier League, the club would have tried harder to sustain a period of stability.

I guess memories are short in football.

I feel sorry for him - the guy did everything asked of him and more.

They've surely got someone lined up and, given their reason for sacking Hughton is that they want someone with more managerial experience, I'd say there's a fair chance of Martin O'Neill being appointed within the next day or two.

Totally agree!! Us Ipswich fans have been praying to hear about a managerial sacking today, sadly we're not owned by some overweight geyser that just wants to sell the club.

Sums up everything wrong with football at the top level these days; inexperienced? He's was experienced enough to get you out of the sh*t and back to the Premier League. Inconsistent, true, but who hasn't been this season? A poor, poor decision and I hope they suffer for it.

I think he's done an excellent job, and a couple of NUFC supporters I know agree with me. It's obvious now that he was never going to be given a real chance at bringing trophies to St.James' Park. I hope and expect him to be back in employment before too long and good luck to him.

The board ought to be ashamed of themselves.

Very strange decision and not sure what The Newcastle board expected from him after being promoted last season. Despite the last few results, they are still 11th in the Premier League and would bet that the board would easily have settled for that at the start of the season.

In would have thought at the start of the season they would have accepted 11th in the league at this point, seems very strange indeed.

The rumour is that Alan Pardew is to be appointed today.

Sounds to me like the club pushing the self destruct button once again!

On Caughtoffside:

Quote
BBC Sport understands that Pardew was in talks with Newcastle about taking over at St Jamesí Park as long as 10 days ago.

It is believed Pardew became close friends with Newcastle owner Mike Ashley and director Derek Llambias when all three were familiar faces at an exclusive London casino where Llambias was managing director.

I originally read the above on BBC Sport itself, but the BBC Sport article has been edited to remove the above. However, the passage still shows up on a Google search as being on the BBC Sport article (see attached).

Fear of a defamation claim?

In other news, Everton, Newcastle United and Tottenham head a shortlist of takeover targets for the Qatar royal family, who are looking to follow up on their success in landing the 2022 World Cup.

Sacking your manager may not be the wisest thing to do when you're looking to sell the club, and you have a potential (super-rich) buyer.

But Ashley has no reputation for being wise, does he.

I read the original BBC Sport article, but now they're just describing Pardew and Llambias as "associates". Reeks of "jobs for the boys" to me and supposedly illegal under employment law.

Today Newcastle stand in 10th position in the league. Lets judge this appointment on where the team is
at the end of the season.

My money would be on them being lower.

This was exactly my first thought when I heard about the length of the contract. Absolutely ludicrous management from the highest level at that club, but then we all knew that already.
