1872 FA Cup winner's medal Can't Post or Reply Privately

On November 8th one of the FA Cup winner's medals from the first final in 1872 is being auctioned at Sotherby's. Estimated price is 30000 - 50000.

http://www.the-saleroom.co.uk/....aspx?itemId=9881549

Newly reformed Wanderers FC have launched an appeal to get enough money to win the item so that it can be housed in the National Football Museum and are asking for donations from anyone who agrees with them.

Personally I think it's possible this could go for a lot more than 50000 if, as Wanderers claim, it is the only known example in existence. If I were a multi-millionaire I reckon I'd be prepared to pay more but I'm not, so I'm not.

I don't know. The auction was only announced by Wanderers a couple of hours ago.
The club were reformed to raise money for UNICEF so I'd guess the money will go to them or you may be able to get it refunded if you don't want that.

Their website may have furthur details in a day or two. In the meantime I've emailed your query to the club.

Email received today.

I have added an FAQs section to the page on our website. If we exceed the total needed or don't raise enough, proceeds will go to Unicef UK.

The club's website is http://www.originalwanderers.com/

Sold for 60000.

The catalogue from that day shows a number of interesting items with some fairly low selling prices (IMO - comparing it to how much rock star's memorabilia goes for).

1897 FA Amateur Cup winners medal - 340.

Nobby Stiles' shirt from the world cup final - 75000

John Goodall's England shirt from 1888 - 4200
etc. etc.
