No not the change of Mexican Strip in that Match.

I did think that when setting this it could be a tricky one, but thought someone may get it by having heard of it or read about it. Now we have got the match it looks as if it was more difficult then initially thought. I am now not sure that the exact answer will be given on this and may have to accept something near to it. I don't want to give too many big clues away but will try and give extra info where possible. So far no-one has gone anywhere close with the correct answer and there are one or two obvious questions that have not been asked which may probably help.

This is a real stab in the dark but I'm guessing it may be to do with the coverage on ITV and as Big Mal has just passed away recently, it may be focusing on him............but I can't give you any specifics I'm afraid

Is this something to do with the crowd?

No not anything to do With Big Malcolm Allison or ITV Coverage, an interesting guess but still a bit wide of the target.

No nothing at all to do with the crowd or crowd involvement etc.
Feel free to have another guess though as the match in question was not Mexico v USSR,the opening round game.

Mexico's 1-0 win meant they tied with USSR (who had played their final group game the previous day) on points and goal difference at the top of Group 1 so had to be separated by goals scored. I'll guess this might have been a first..... and might even be the correct answer?? Probably not....

No not that and shots still a bit of Target. However the result of the game did have an influence on this Event/Occurrence.

I might be wrong here and to tired to look it up now but I think they were seperated by toss of coin as goal difference was the only tie-break in the 1970 World Cup - stand to be corrected.

G: First time a person had qualified for the 2nd stage of the World Cup as both a player and manager - Raśl Cardenas from Mexico.

EDIT: No, that's statistics Crazy.

Yes, I read that lots were drawn next day by FIFA president sir Stanley Rous to see who got first place in the group and The USSR's name came out. Apparently Mexico asked for special favours and wanted to stay in Mexico city to play their quarter final match at The Aztec stadium but instead played at Toluca (a much smaller capacity ground).

It is not however Raśl Cardenas becoming first player to reach 2nd stage of world Cup as player and manager.

Speaking af favours for Mexico, has anyone found footage of the first Mexican goal against El Salvador?

Were journalists involved in the e/o?

The footage is out there somewhere on Youtube and as mentioned in an earlier post, it was an incredable decision by ref to award a goal.

No journalists were involved in this e/o.

In the back of the Net it goes - Winner !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We have the correct answer, it is that for exactly the same reason as detailed above which apparently happened after The Mexico V Belgium Group game. Just to add that it appeared he was tried and acquitted as he had acted in patriotic exaltation.

Well done over to you -beginning to think no-one would get it and just pipped at the post to another Tonner.
