Yes home team is South of M42 which reduces possibilities from 5 to 4

Did this happen at a ground where the current capacity is below 16,000?

Ground capacity is above 16K which reduces it to three possible home teams

However as a side note you find that capacity figures seem to vary from source to source

That is now, capacity of most grounds in the old days was usually much greater, before elf and safety rules

G: The golden goal that saw QPR defeated 1-0 at home by Bournemouth in the 1946 Division 3 South Cup semi final replay

EDIT: some suggestion that it was scored in the 146th minute!! Here's my source (main article plus the 2nd comment beneath http://www.indyrs.co.uk/?p=175)

WINNER

In the post-war re-construction season of 1945-46 as players gradually returned to their clubs Division 3 South was sub-divided North and South and they played 11 team (22 matches) leagues until the New Year.

For the second half of the season with more of their regular players available they played 8 of the 11 home & away again (with the odd team out each week playing the odd team out from the other section just to make the tables impossible to tally independent of one another) for the Division 3 South Cup

The groups finished on Easter Monday (22nd April) with the group winners playing the opposite group runners-up in the semi-finals on the following Saturday (27th April).

In the semi-finals Walsall beat Bristol Rovers but Bournemouth and QPR drew 1-1. They therefore had a replay the following Wednesday (1st May) to decide who would face Walsall at Stamford Bridge in the final that Saturday (4th May).

The replay was goalless after extra time.. With another replay impossible to fit in and with the light fading another 15 minutes was played still without result. They therefore then agreed to what is now known as "the golden goal rule" and Jack Kirkham of Bournemouth scored almost straight away to end the match after 136 minutes. Three days later Kirkham again scored the only goal of the match for Bournemouth to win the trophy.

It was 136th (not 146th) minute and Q.P.R. were runners-up in the Div. 3 South (North) section whilst Bournemouth won the South (South) section.

South was -
Aldershot, Bournemouth, Brighton, Bristol C., Bristol R., Cardiff, Crystal P., Exeter, Reading, Swindon, Torquay

North was -
Ipswich, Leyton O., Mansfield, Northampton, Norwich, Notts Co., Port Vale, Southend, Q.P.R., Walsall, Watford

This was before the 3rd Divisions were expanded to 24 clubs each for the 1950-51 season.

Phew - I'm glad that's done !

I didn't consider QPR however, as Loftus Road is East of the M1 (just) Crazy

Same here Paddy. That was a grueller. Unlucky you didn't extend your winning streak though... I guess the record still stands Tongue As for the M1, I was uncertain about where East / West actually ends up... it's a wiggly line the M1
Crazy

Likewise - so I looked at the co-ordinates for the start of the M1 and took it from there. Yes, it's been that kind of day after yesterday's drinkfest in Manchester. Remind us what the record is Stu ?

I looked long and hard at the map and without wanting to give it away took the line of the extension of the M1 as it ended
which put it West of the M1, it was not intended to mislead.
Similarly I reckoned it was just north of the M4 line.
Difficult when motorways do not cover entire widths or lengths of the country.

John, I prefer to think that Stu got at you as he was worried about losing his record and got you to deliberately throw me off track. I'll be sure of that if it transpires that you win his next quiz. Assuming he does win another................Tongue
