Yes we understand that. All that some people are asking is that you please take a little more time reading your posts before sending them, use capital letters in the correct places, check the spelling etc. Your contibutions are valuable, doing the above would make then even more so.

The nearest one to me is not going to win any awards unless it's for most drunks before 10am or most down and outs on the pavement outside a pub award. Now opens at 7am. Mind you it is in a 1960's shopping centre where Greggs the Bakers sells out of pasties before 9am.

Only ever been in 5 or 6, the one's in Fleetwood and Harlow would not win many awards either.

I've been to a fair few of these places on my travels over the past few years. They've actually just opened up a brand new one (well about 3 weeks old now) in Ponte thats quite nice and is doing its bit in reviving a town centre that has gone a bit downhill since Xscape opened up.
There's the Glassblower in CasVegas and the Six Chimneys in Wakey that are quite nice in my experiences.

4 of them in Milton Keynes and they are all pretty much the same, I favour the one nearest the station as it's within walking distance of home and it's a decent size. The ones further afield are more interesting however, particularly liked the 1 in Telford.

Portsmouth Spoons

Isambard Brunel (near Pompey & Southsea Stn) I avoid like the plague. Beer is hideously poorly kept.
White Swan ( 50 yards further on from Isambard Brunel) Slow service and half decent pint. Good but limited selection
Jean Jacques (Fratton Station) Good selection of beers well kept and upto 20p pint cheaper than the Spoons in the City centre. Recommended
Lord Baker (London Road North End) Haven't been in for a while but the beer was off.
Cosham (Cant remember its name) Again havent been in for a while. Decent pint but go in at night at your peril

Onto Fareham's Spoons

Lord Arthur Lee - One that the casual Fareham fan tried to turn into the UK's first drive through pub! Has improved markedly in the past couple of years. Good selection of beers and on the whole well kept. Occasional poorly kept pint but compared to how it was 3-4 years ago 100 times better

The Crown - Smaller pub similar to the White Swan, Always appears to have Triple fff beers which isnt a bad thing. Gets busy quickly.

I have visited many 'spoons hostelries up & down the country & by far the worst i have encountered is The White House in Luton.Just awful.Poor selection of beers, dreary decor & an intimidating atmosphere. Two near me in Dartford. The Paper Moon, one of the first 'spoons to be opened in Kent & now showing it's age & The Flying Boat, which is in a vast warehouse type building & was formerly one of The Litten Tree chain of pubs.Generally the concept of cheap drink & food as well as a good variety of beer is always going to be a winner! As Tim Martin the founder has been proven.

186 done to date; mostly in the Midlands; mostly visited during the day or early evening; the best has to be the Babington in Derby with its impressive range of at least 15 different and usually scarce real ales; they are bound to attract a certain level of custom with its early opening and cheap beer; the strangest is also in Derby where there are 2 Spoons next door to each other; however only one bad experience to report; t`was after the last Peninsula Hop game when we decided to tick off the St Austell Spoons; they were getting ready for a Saturday night disco (being a Lloyds) and they had a male and female bouncer on the door; surely they won`t stop two late fifties old gits (blue nose Paul was with me); WRONG!! a full body search (by the male bouncer unfortunately) and the contents of my wallet, moths included, were scrutinised; we did get in to be greeted by a few well-known travellers, most of whom who seemed to have escaped the search. We must have looked well dodgy!!

I've been in The Paper Moon in Dartford a few times, nice enough pub although as you say it is perhaps showing its age a bit.

I can't say I've ever been into any Wetherspoons pub and thought 'I won't come in here again', the only bad experience I had was in Maidstone (Muggletons) when they totally cocked up our food order but in the end they gave us our money back and gave us the food free of charge so I can't grumble.

With pubs closing down left right and centre all over the country they do seem to have 'bucked the trend' so they must be doing something right.

Thoroughly recommend the Poste of Stone in Stone, always a good selection of ales, usually local. It's one of the few 'Spoons you can park outside too! The worst one I've been in was in Fazakerley, Liverpool. That was down to the fact the beer was poor and it was rammed at teatime.

The good thing is you know what you're going to get at most and there is never one too far away, town centre locations aren't ideal for access though when you're driving. That's probably a good thing for some hoppers.....
