The thread from garethwrexy on comedy football films got me thinking.
How many fictional football teams have there been in films, or on television? And what grounds were they filmed at?
I'm not putting my 'thinking cap' on, but a few examples:
'Dream Team' & Harchester United.
'Ripping Yarns' & Barnstoneworth United.
Erm...The 'Frost' series featured a team called Denton United.
On 'Eastenders' a few years ago there was an Irish lad, who was a young pro with Walford United?
The series called 'The Manageress', which starred Cherie Lunghie, I can't recall the team name.
In the late seventies, can't recall the name, their was a kids programme, about a boys football team, I'm sure some of it was filmed at Chesham United.

Jossie's Giants? think some was filmed at Vicarage Road and some at the Baseball Ground - written by Sid Waddell?
Jossy's Giants (featuring Glipton Giants and rivals Glipton Grasshoppers) was indeed written by Sid Waddell, but the Watford/Derby connection is another show, Murphy's Mob set around professional club Denmore United.
I've been trying to think of the name of the team managed by Cherie Lunghi in 'The Manageress' (filmed Reading), but even Wikipedia has failed me, so I'll just add Gasforth Town from 'The Thin Blue Line'! I remember a copy of Groundtastic establishing where the latter was filmed (Polytechnic FC?), and can add that Barnstoneworth's home ground was Salts FC.
Oh, and it's Walford Town...

Over at the IMDB forums is the following with regards to The Manageress:
The programme was very careful to never name any team; always referring to "we," "us," "them," or "that lot." This allowed them free reign to tackle themes of racism, corruption, and performance enhancing drugs without worrying about being sued.
The ground used for filming was Reading FC's Elm Park.
So it was a Spanish or Italian team then?

There was a football soap in the late 60s called 'United'. Twice weekly half hour episodes but I can't remember any more. Hopefully someone will as it's now starting to annoy me!

of course it was - not sure if it was that one in particular but some used real footage - mainly for build to a goal - then cut to some actor scoring on take 27

In the manageress the team was never named. Home games were at Reading and a number of away games were at Oxford.
The 1970's series filmed at Chesham was written by Kenneth Cope (Coronation St, Brookside, Randell and Hopkirk, etc). A number of players were from a team he formed himself and played in one of the local kids league around Oxford. I remember going to a Cup Final at Islip where my Aunt presented the Cup and Kenneth Copes's side were in the final.

There was a comedy about kids football called 'The Cup' on BBC2 last autumn, with some scenes filmed at Atherton LR's Crilly Park.
Early afternoon soap Doctors featured a story about a player at Letherbridge Town, who appeared to be groundsharing with Alvechurch.

How can Bostock's Cup not be mentioned to date. The story of the 25th anniversary of Bostock Stanley winning the FA Cup (using some old Sunderland footage) managed by Bertie Masson (Tim Healy - surprisingly playing a Geordie) .
The home team used Aldershot as their base although Bostock's location was never actually revealed.
The funniest football film. Bar none. Scandalously ITV have refused petitions to re-screen the programme.

I sure I read it in the history of Oxford University Football Club. Harry Enfield's Charlie Charlie Charles sketch is a take on that film, I think.
I'm fairly sure that The Trojans were actually Brentford - Pegasus was the Oxford/ Cambridge unis teams I think?

The film was years before Pegasus was formed.
The Trojans were Oxford and Cambridge players

The film's two matches were constructed from footage of an actual Highbury game between Arsenal and Brentford, with Brentford recast as the Trojans, and a mock-up match using the Oxford and Cambridge Blues as the Trojans for the close shots. As I recall, a lot of the location shots were in Bergamo at Atalanta's stadium. I think...........
