The Banks o' Dee committee decided at a meeting last Wednesday, 26th November, to forward an application to join the Highland Football League.
At this moment in time the Dee's structure and facilities are light years ahead of the other known applicants. They are also members of the Aberdeenshire & District FA which permits them to play in the Aberdeenshire League, an under 21 league comprising of Buckie Thistle, Cove Rangers, Deveronvale, Fraserburgh, Huntly, Inverurie Loco Works & Keith from the HFL and Peterhead from the SFL. The ADFA also run two knock-out competitions, The Aberdeenshire Cup & Aberdeenshire Shield. These competitions are without age restriction and teams are generally made up of first team players. Banks o' Dee have reached this years final of the Aberdeenshire Shield, accounting for Buckie Thistle,3-1, and Huntly, 6-1 on the way. The final, against Cove Rangers, will be played at Pittodrie Stadium on Tuesday December 16th.
Rumour has it two previously unmentioned contenders may be contemplating applying to join the HFL.
Nothing certain but the grapevine suggests a former HFL member may be applying to rejoin.
