Notts Senior Cup 2008-09. Can't Post or Reply Privately

Round 1

Sep 30 tues.
Radford (EMCL step 6) - Hucnall Rolls Leisure (NSL step 9) 0-1 62
Teversal (NCE-1 step 6) - Greenwood Meadows (EMCL step 6) 1-1 2-4pens 70

Hucknall RL produce a big shock, they only qualified for this cup
because they won the Notts Intermedite Cup last season, when
they where a step 10 side.
Greenwood's win must go down as at least a minor shock.
They are showing some good form this season (top of the table),
but most seasons they struggled at the bottom of step 7 CMFL
Supreme.

No!, Mansfield Town don't enter this competition.
Something to do with the fact that they are in
the cup competition called(i think) "Notts County Cup",
with Nottingham Forest and Notts County.
A cup competition that is hardly ever played, because
the 3 clubs pay the Notts FA not to play it.
There is some sort of legal document that says that
Mansfield Town should play in the "Notts County Cup",
exclusivly and to take no part, there of etc...,in any
other county cup of similar name:i.e:"Notts Senior Cup".
Stags are my second team, and even i think they should
be playing in the Senior cup.Just think of the money they
could bring in for the smaller clubs, if one got drawn against
the Stags, or the prestige of being drawn at Field Mill.

There are 34 entries into the Notts Senior Cup.
24 play in the first two rounds, as can be seen in my
first two posts.
The six that win the second round, join 10 teams who
have been given byes in the 3rd round, to make up
the last 16.
The 10 who have been given byes this season are:
8 quarter finalists from last season.
Arnold Town (NCE step5).
Gedling MW (EMC step6).
Hucknall Town (CON-N step2).
Eastwood Town (NPL step3).
Southwell City (CML-S step7).
Carlton Town (NPL-1S step4).
Gedling Town (EMC step6).
Ollerton Town (CML-S step7).

And the next 2, who finished highest in the leagues.
Retford Utd (NPL-1S step4).
Rainworth MW (NCE-1 step6).

It does not always work as you sugest, Fred.
In many county cups, such as Gloucestershire, there is such a tendency for the big teams to play with reserve or lesser squads, that this has damaged the standing of the whole competition, and now a match between two Southern League teams is second rate, compared to a league match between the same pairing. If Mansfield stay outside, but the rest of the County's top non-League sides send out their best team, then this will do more for the reputation of the competition than bringing Mansfield in. Only Mansfield's full first team are worth having.

Did you know?

In the last 13 years, Arnold, Hucknall and Eastwood have
won the Notts Senior Cup 4 times each.
Meaning just one other team have managed to break the
Big three's domination.
Do you know who that other team was?
Don't write in, it's only a bit of fun, there's no prizes.
I'll give the answer sometime next week, well i might if anybody's
really bothered.
I've wrote this post just to highlight the domination of the Big three
in our county.
As a matter of interest 14 years ago Oakham United won the
competition when they beat Clipstone Welfare 3-0 in the 1995 final.
Oakham United don't exist anymore, they folded the following year.

You must be on about the 2002 final, Gedling Town 1 Southwell City 0. It's the only time I've watched the Notts Senior Cup Final and the only reason I went was because Arnold, Eastwood and Hucknall didn't get to it! Sly

Great pictures and then into video of Wollaton's 2-0 win over Clipstone
in 2nd round.
If you haven't seen Wollaton's ground, it gives you a flavour of it.
Warning:It has a indie/rock soundtrack.

Probably hasn't worked, but just google "Wollaton fc" if not.
to find their website.

On the photobucket page, that the link takes you to on

You could search for Neilfrazer.
It will then say"are you looking for the photobucket user

And you will find an excellent album of his work.
Which looks good, and it has loads of Notts Senior League

It is supposed to be 3rd round (last 16) for
5 of the 8 games this week.
But its looking doubtful that any of the games
will survive the snow.
The other 3 games are expected to be played
in either a week or two.
This weeks (doubtful) games.

Feb 3rd Tuesday.
All seem to be 7.30, but i'm not totally sure.

Hucknall Rolls Leisure v Carlton Town.
Gedling Town v Gedling MW.
Dunkirk v Hucknall Town.
Ollerton Town v Rainworth MW.
Forest Town v Radcliffe Olympic.

You had me worried when you said it was March 18.
I thought the unibond must have invented a
Time-machine, and seen that the snow would still be
with us.
But i've checked and it's Feb 18th, which had already
been arranged for that date before the snow came.

Also arranged for that week on Feb 17th is the
Wollaton v Arnold Town tie, but it won't be at Wollaton
as they haven't got floodlights.
I think i read that its already arranged at another venue,
but being as its another 2 weeks away, the finalisation
of the game won't matter just yet to anybody who may
want to go.
If we have a winter of 1962-63 or 1978-79 prepartions
then these ties may well be played in March.

All this weeks postponed games are pencilled in for next
week along with Calverton MW v Retford Utd, that had
already been arranged for Feb 10.
I'll put the dates in, later in the week.

Somewhere in Nottinghamshire. The game has been reversed, so its due to be played at Arnold's Eagle Valley. But we know the problems they've been having with their pitch.

Is it worth putting this weeks rearranged
cup ties on here?
Will i have to update the rearranged ties
week in week out?

Here's this weeks Round 3 ties.
All of them arranged for the 10th Tuesday.
Although the first tie,
Hucknall RL v Carlton Town.
is on the 11th according to the Notts FA.
But Hucknall RL and NPL have it for 10th.
But as HRL's say "This game is very doubtful."

Hucknall RL v Carlton Town.
Gedling Town v Gedling MW.
Dunkirk v Hucknall Town.
Ollerton Town v Rainworth MW.
Calverton MW v Retford Utd.

The other 3 ties to be played next week.

17th Tues Arnold Town v Wollaton.
18th weds Southwell City v Eastwood Town.
21st Sat Forest Town v Radcliffe Olympic.
