Re: [paignton-nick] Setanta Shield [In reply to] Can't Post or

Has anyone got the North South split for the Premier Division,

North - Wrexham, Mansfield, Altrincham, Burton, Kidderminster, Northwich, Rushden, York, Barrow, Kettering

South - Crawley, Ebbsfleet, Forest Green, Grays, Salisbury, Torquay, Weymouth, Woking, Lewes, Eastbourne.

???? - Cambridge, Histon, Oxford, Stevenage.

Straight north / south would see Cambridge and Histon in North, or could they even go Cambridge, Histon and Stevenage south, Oxford and Forest Green north, using the Wash / Severn line ?. As we already have Kettering and Rushden in the north the Conference Premier is very southern (and East Anglain / Midland) based this coming season.

Notice there's no 1st round exemptions this season. How are the subsequent rounds going to unfold? When will BSP come in?

Presume some come in at 2nd round otherwise you would only have five and a half ties in each section. Though if all came in at the 2nd round you would have 46 clubs, in theory you need 32 in round three so are some clubs exempt until round three ?. Six (3 north / 3 south) in at round two making 28 clubs (22+6), 14 forward to round three where the other 18 come in making 32, then 16, 8, 4, 2.

That's what I thought. Until I remembered Strudwick is in charge. So anything could happen.

Re: [ladderman] Setanta Shield [In reply to] Can't Post or Reply Privately

I can't remember where I saw it but I did read somewhere that the 22 1st round winners will be joined by the four sides promoted from Conference North and Conference South plus the 2 lowest placed non-relegated sides in the national division. That would give 28 sides in the 2nd round of whom 14 would get through to the 3rd round to be joined by the other 18 national division sides. Those 32 clubs would then follow a normal pattern towards the final.

I consider this to be a much better format than that used last season when too few sides in the north and south divisions had an opportunity to play against sides from the top division. Eight teams from outside the top division were left when the national division sides came in whereas this season there could be any number from eight again to as many as fourteen, not forgetting (which I had until this edit!) the potential for six north or south clubs to face higher-level opponents in the 2nd round.
