Impressive win by a young Forest team not that the Ipswich management will be bothered- last year the Reserves kept winning but the First team kept losing and got relegated, this season, Reserves are played 4, lost 4 and the First team keep winning.


2 players coming back from injury today and Keane getting some more minutes under his belt were the plus points, however Ipswich looked poor and an easy win for Forest.

First Monday night visit of the season to:
New College Swindon 0-5 Stonehouse Town
Hellenic League Division 1
Attendance: Given as 25 on Hellenic website, but at least 45 there.
I was running a little late after having a chat with somebody in the car park prior to kick-off, so didn't see if Eric was taking money prior to kick-off or not?

New College look much improved. Still a young side making mistakes, but they look vastly better than what we have seen there the last couple of seasons where they have been the league's whipping boys, consistently conceding 8, 9, 10 or more goals a game.

Stonehouse were wasteful in front of goal and despite my last sentence, could have won by 8 or 9 but that was more down to them than anything NCS did.

2 players stood out for me, the home sides #11 who looks a very skillful talent and always offered them something going forward, he was probably their only real outlet. If they can play to his strengths and maybe find one or two more attacking options better than they already have then they might start scoring goals.

2nd player who stood out was the visiting winger #7 who despite his small stature was quicker than a whippet up the wing, scored a very good goal and always looked creative and like he could play at a higher level. Will have to get a bit stronger though I feel.

NCS have what appears to be a competent keeper this year, which will also help them keep some scores down. They're still some way away from being anything other than a bottom dweller, but they appear to have some players that they can build a nucleus of a side from and may even pick up some points.

+1. Yes, he was taking cash and I paid £4 but there was no paper. The numbers were swollen by a load of Stonehouse followers who went in via the gates at the side as it's not very well sign-posted as to where you pay.
Otherwise, your summary was spot on - I enjoyed the game and thought the home side were competitive for the first 30.

Also in attendance along with another Norwich resident, I paid £3 and he just £1. First match travelled to by train for ages.



Watford FC supporter hence the name also follow Hull FC but rarely get to see either these days.

Have now visited over 800 grounds, progress in recent years has been rather slow and will continue to be as things stand.

Cranleigh FC U18’s 6-0 Ashford Town (Middx) FC U18's (Combined Counties League, Tony Ford U18’s Division West)
- played at Snoxhall Fields, Knowle Lane, Cranleigh from 7.50pm (advertised as 7.30pm .. probably should of been 7.45pm)

Att – nearing 60 approx (h/c); Entry – none; Prog – none; No refreshment seen
Weather – raining at home .. but dry and clear in Surrey
Travel – up the A3 and right at Milton
Colours – Cranes in all blue with white stripes to front of shirts .. Tangerines in purple and white quarters and black shorts.

Opening night in this League and with a great grassy sloped surface, really good floodlights and solid local commitment to youth football found, a wonderful night in Surrey was had .. our hosts putting on a skilful team display, which I’m sure will attract the eye of various senior Clubs given the talent, with some cracking goals scored, even if assisted by some defensive lapses.

Luckily the rain was not found this night, although a single covered concrete standing was available between dugouts, if it had appeared .. no other furniture, with just an old decaying concrete path around the pitch, string and plastic placed posts both sides, to offer an enclosure within large expanse of playing facilities .. the car park full and a good crowd on hand .. all very appreciative of the game provided.

Goals went in around 9 (ball dropped nicely to allow left foot strike from edge of six yard line ), 18 (break down left and squared for tap in), 24 (in from the right and drilled top left), 28 (short back pass allowed forward to pounce and round the keeper) , 53 (best of the night from forty yards as keeper was off line) and 71 (forward cut outside and drilled home) .. a comprehensive display by our hosts and not much the visitors could take from this one .. will be interesting to see this season unfold for both and I’ll try to get along to some more games where they slot easily into the schedule .. as we drifted off into the darkness to allow the nudging of Mrs hh before 11.0pm .. Tongue

Reading City 1-3 Penn & Tylers Green
Entry: £6
Attendance: officially 120, perhaps a slightly optimistic figure?

...in the always enjoyable company of Royals26, as we chewed the cud over recent ticks and future targets.

A much better match than I was expecting to see, obviously helped by the four goals, plenty of near misses and a couple of goalmouth scrambles. And it was all fairly even up until Penn's late third.

...little to add other than to return the compliment of my associate from 'over the border', of course Smile

Att: also thought the crowd figure was a tad over-estimated - nice to see Andreas is (seemingly) still involved with P&TG - not been present on the previous couple of times I've seen them. Will try and chat a bit more next time if possible; probably on their return to French School Meadows whenever that may be. Cool

Match: Reading City had the upper hand for large parts of the game but were either wasteful in front of goal or kept out by some determined defending; coupled with a keeper in good form
- dashing out and flinging himself around to protect his goal.

Impressed with:
a) P&TG on the break
b) the new 'well behaved' City - is to the fore of the 'new regime' - very little back chat (possibly mindful of sin-binning) and no over the top confrontational niggles that was a fairly unwelcome feature of their former guise on a few occasions here.

Back indoors before 22:00.
