The 'I have been banned' problem or Reply Privately

There seems to be a software issue from around the start of August where forum members get the message that they have been banned. Sometimes they can log straight back in and sometimes it takes multiple attempts.
The software engineers that host the site and actually wrote the forum software have been unable to nail down the problem.

Lets start to narrow it down a bit for them:
Are you accessing the forum via https ie is the a green padlock in the browser bar or notWhat device, operating system. browser are you using.
Were you logged in as a forum member when you got the banned screen or viewing as a guest?
Brief description of your issue and what you were doing immediately before you got the You Are Banned screen.

It also may help if you log in regularly but have never actually experienced this problem that you give them device, operating system and browser. Hopefully there will be a pattern.

In the meantime many apologies for anyone experiencing this issue.

Thanks... Steve

No problems (yet) using either Google Chrome and Windows Explorer on a desktop.
No problems either on my Samsung mobile though I am still frequently asked - on all modes of entry - the GDPR questions about preferences etc. Thought all that should have stopped by now.

Just happened again.
Was logged in, browsing, clicked on a topic and got the message. Closed down and logged in again.
Had the padlock symbol in the address bar.
Using IE on a Windows tablet (System won't support Chrome)

I have never seen the problem.

I use Firefox on Windows 10 on a PC. I usually turn off the PC overnight without logging out, and the site automatically logs in when Firefox starts.

Non-secure connection.

So far I have had no problem.
I use my iMac desktop computer with Safari browser. My server is Virgin Media.

I access the sit on average 3 times a day and check all threads that interest me.

I do not log out and in but access the site via a bookmark and exit by closing Safari or moving to another site.

Had this message on my iPad when entering the site before logging in but no problems on the computer. You can get round the 'ban' by first entering the NLM main site then clicking on the Forum.

Here was I reading about the message & sitting here thinking I have never seen it when I got it as well. I use Firefox & Windows 7 on the computer concerned. For several weeks I have had to log in again each time even though I never log out. However I was able to log in at once again without a problem.

Re: [prorege] The 'I have been banned' problem or Reply Privately

No problems at all, working as an admin most of every day. Never logged out.

Laptop, Windows 10, with two or 3 windows open with both IE and Edge.

For admin work: same laptop, Windows 10, and Chrome (so much faster than IE/Edge)

Same set up on my PC (in spare bedroom, used less regularly, no problems)

At bed time, laptop switched off and everything closed down but not logged out of NLM.

PC never switched off, too much effort to restart!!

Re: [villan] The 'I have been banned' problem or Reply Privately

I do not understand this. My original post nowhere to be seen & obviously blocked by banned message. I went around previous page routes & eventually got back to this thread but original post lost although connection to forum restored & my previous message sent. Anyway to repeat I am on BT using windows based tablet IE windows 8.1 & chrome not compatible. Never had problem with initial log on which I do each visit. I do not log out just wipe screen when browsing finished. Get banned message after being on site for sometime on various threads but my impression is it happens mostly when in restructuring threads but that may be a coincidence. It is probably more linked to a time factor. In between these last 2 posts I also got a timed out error message but that disappeared as I continued to go back previous pages. Is forum throwing people out on a timed basis using banned message????? I know nothing!!!!

Re: [multilevel] The 'I have been banned' problem or Reply Privately

I've just had the banned message on my laptop for the first time, previously only saw it on my phone. I had tried to reload the Main Index to see if there were any new posts in any of the areas I was interested in.

Win 10, Chrome Version 76.0.3809.100 (Official Build) (32-bit).

I always stay logged in and I shut down the computer every day.
Closing the tab with the message on and launching another one is working fine so far. I generally access NLM by typing the letters 'non' into a blank tab and it knows where to go!

Re: [steve walker] The 'I have been banned' problem or Reply Privately

I have never seen the banned message and sign in most days and view numerous threads but some I never look at.

I use an IPad with safari op system.

I need to sign in every visit by using my finger print to access my username and password. I also tick check the no cookies box.

At the end of the sessions I just go to another bookmarked web site. When I revisit I still need to log in, must be a timed out reason as I donít actually log out.

Occasionally I use a PC using IE and windows10. Via a bookmark. I have to sign in by typing in my username and password by long hand, but still check the no cookies box. I still have not been banned. Again I do not physically log out but it must time me out before I log back in later.

Still on Windows 10, Firefox 68.0.1, non-secure session

Using Microsoft Edge and Windows 10 - happened a couple of dozen times in the last 10 days, either logging in or moving to a new topic - no logic, it seems to happen ad hoc.

Just been "banned". Was logged in, using Edge on Windows 10. Was in the General Discussions Forum. Wouldn't let me access until I closed the window and opened a fresh one, then straight in.

Surely it can't be to do with the ads can it? That never occurred to me.
Can a few other people with ad blockers try this to either rule it out or in.

Probably tempting fate here but, for the first time since this all started, it hasn't happened to me at all today (with one possible expection - I can't remember if it happened when I first accessed the site early this morning, which would have been from a page I'd kept open while logged out overnight).

Re: [paulh66] The 'I have been banned' problem or Reply Privately

Just to keep you informed, this issue is still being looked at even though not everyone seems to be affected. I have not seen it myself despite being here every day usually multiple times.
It will probably require an upgrade of the existing forum software and the company that wrote it are being incredibly helpful above and beyond what I would have expected since this software stopped being developed at least 10 years ago.
So if you are still getting this problem apologies but it hasn't been forgotten.
