After yesterday’s announcement that the club had failed to meet the necessary ground grading requirements and was accepting relegation, it really raises the question as to how many clubs will avoid promotion to Step 4 due to the financial constraints, not only of facing a greater playing budget but also the impending expense of improving the facility.

As it stood, there was only one promotion spot up for grabs in the Ncel Prem, looking at the proposals for the 2020/21 season where there will be three promoted; I honestly don’t see three clubs in the league that would want promotion, or could afford to take the rise. Will it still be a case of mandatory relegation for those unwilling to go up or will ground grading rules have to be reassessed?

I doubt very much that is was for that reason alone. They are/were a bankrolled club with a handful of fans in an unsustainable position. With Worksop and our huge fanbase now promoted, of the clubs now left in the NCEL, only Brid & Penistone, maybe Staveley have anything like a decent fanbase, after that you are looking at clubs with 50-100 average - barely more than families of the players and club officials. The NPL East (if it stays that way), will , by 20/21 look very much like the NCEL Premier of 4 or 5 years ago.
