D'you know I considered Pickles' owner as I was toddling off to bed but thought - nah, he's dead. And before I could follow up today...........slam dunk. Nice one Chris and heading toward the top of the current leaderboard.

Did this occur before Jan 1st 1996?

By the way have another question as my previous post has probably been misread as this E/O was before 1.1.1980.

Thanks Mip, the world cup subject does pop up quite frequently in these 20q games..

No, it did not happen during a match but the answer does involve a match and it is important to come up with the correct answer.

An early stab then :

The league game on December 1st 1962 between Ipswich and Sheffield Wednesday that brought about the match-fixing case resulting in two England internationals, among others, being found guilty and serving time as well as being banned from the game for life.

Moving along nicely this one Chris. I'll have a pre-midnight stab... the game between Sheffield Wednesday and Arsenal in 1928. August 25th I reckon, and Wednesday won 3-2. It was the first game that teams wore shirt numbers. Although it was 1 to 11 and 12 to 22.

Not that, is it? Unsure

No not that Jamesie, the great thing about this game is learning all the fascinating new football trivia that you did not know previously.

I'll probably stay online to about 12.30 if anyone wants to ask new questions or submit further guesses.

First Sunday League game ever between Millwall and Fulham in 1974. I believe they had to charge the admission money for the programme and have "admission by programme only" to get round the law.

WINNER !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Congratulations -Yes the answer is the first division (level one) league game to be played on a Sunday in England between Stoke and Chelsea in January 1974.
Was looking for one of the first Sunday Matches to set for the quiz and thought that the obvious two of.........

1) Cambridge utd v Oldham First Sunday FA cup game and 2) Millwall V Fulham first Sunday football league game were perhaps to obvious and went for the Stoke V Chelsea division one game played a couple of weeks later on Sunday 27th Jan 1974 as the least obvious. Bad look on Mip who was so very close.

Congratulations Doodle, a debut winner I believe. Hope that you are up for hosting the next one.

Got to admit - totally a fluke, I'd spent the day trying to assess the options, and happened to spot this stat whilst getting the Stamford Bridge postcode!!! Seeing you were on an 11pm deadline - thought I'd throw it in - I was more confident of the Cloughy guess being correct to be honest!! Anyway - whilst I may finally have got off the mark - I have hit the post a few times when I've missed by a matter of minutes or a couple of weeks ago, seconds!!
