Yes, Nico it is a ground but I want something more than that - I want a ground together with something that is missing which you might otherwise expect from its configuration. It is therefore also related to infrastructure as asked by Mek.

To summarise answers to all the other questions - it is not a club, nor a person, nor an event/occurrence, nor indeed a bracketed tick. Neither is it British.

Is "Saarf" a dialectical affirmative or negative, or a dead giveaway to a region and river which is both North and West of Vienna ?

WAG: The ground is the "Pierluigi Penzo" (S.S.C. Venezia). I believe that all entry to the ground is by boat.

Good try but not right I'm afraid.

Although the logical way to get to this ground is by boat, as we did, I think it is possible to walk as well, but it's a long way from Central Venezia !

Is it Estadio du Luz, Benfica, and the curiosity that it was designed to use as much natural light as possible, despite the fact that the oft quoted 'English' name, Stadium of Light, which inspired the architect is in fact a mistranslation?

You ask us what the aim is? I tell you it is victory. Victory at all costs, victory in spite of all terror, victory however long and hard the road may be; for without victory, there is no survival. Either that, or fried onions at the tea bar. Fried onions at reasonable cost, fried onions in spite of all terror, fried onions however long and hard the hot-dogs may be; for without fried onions, there are only boiled ones.

I think it leaves two (if the Stadium of Light isn't correct), so I'll go for the José de Alvalade XXI, because it has an underground car-park? I can think of another oddity, but that's an addition rather than something that's "missing".

Indeed it is José de Alvalade XXI but not for the reason you have surmised.

Definitely is something (or things) notable by its/their absence. The fact that Sporting Clube de Portugal play there is of relevance.

Is the missing thing the lack of dugouts/technical areas with direct access to the pitch (ie pitchside) with access to the pitch being gained via bridge type affairs

Not that I'm afraid

Not that, either. I didn't realise just how many things are missing !

Can I just give a little directional hint for your thinking. The "attitude" of Sporting Clube is of great significance.

Q: Does the missing element have anything to do with flags ?

Is it a feature of the playing area that's missing?

A random guess before I head off to work... seeing as SCP have won so many "titles" in so many "sports", is it the trophy cabinet that's absent? Crazy

Just a note to anyone who is wondering, I am no longer a moderator of this forum due to current personal circumstances and work commitments. If you need help, contact leohoenig or Steve walker. Thank You.

Random guess because I'm bored at work!

Is it because there is no tunnel for the teams to run out of?

Not that either.

Think team loyalties and especially local rivalries.

No, they're not that vindictive, and don't forget the stadium was used for the Euro Championships !

How about Jamesie's question vis-a-vis "trophies" ? (I do not wish to steal one!)

Woops- missed that one, but I've answered it now.

This is going on a bit and as I'm not here much tomorrow and away for the weekend I'd better give a fairly big clue - This is something that is common to quite a few of the rebuilt/new grounds in Portugal and is something that Sporting have got, but not every variety of it. Hope that doesn't obfuscate matters even further ?

I should really disqualify you but I'll take pity on you after your 4 minutes abandoned tonight and say you are the WINNER !

Like many of the new/rebuilt grounds Sporting Lisbon's has multi-coloured seats, but presumably because none were available (or could it be that Benfica play in that colour ?) they have no red ones !
