Re: [prorege] Scottish Junior Cup - draw [In reply to] Can't Post or Reply Privately

Sat 12 Oct
R2 third attempts
Maud 0-3 Kirriemuir Thistle
Thorniewood P-P Banks o' Dee
R2 replays
Benburb 11-0 Deveronside
Bo'ness United CFC 2-2 Ellon United, pens 2-4
Culter 4-2 Wishaw

The fourth attempt of Thorniewood v BoD is listed for a fortnight later Sat 26th Oct, which surprises me, and again at Thorniewood. That's the date of the next round, so Glenafton v Thorniewood/BoD is already pushed back to Nov 2nd. Surely they should be having a go at this outstanding R2 tie on Sat 19th Oct, with a back-up plastic neutral venue if Robertson Park is still soggy (it's a notoriously poor drainer). And although there is no 'three strikes and you're out' rule, if it were switched to BoD, it'd be on guaranteed plastic and not holding up the competition...

Doh! Silly me! I should have remembered that, especially since I'll be at that game at Ainslie Park on Friday night!

I'm going outside. I may be some time.

Having just had a look at Thorniewood's twitter account, it is interesting to note that they had produced a very colourful double-sided teamsheet (presumably in lieu of a programme) for the original 28th September date. Is this normal for their home games now (I got a proper programme there about two or three years ago) or was it because they were worried about the rain in the days leading up to the match? However, if they were to issue a new programme for the neutral venue of Carluke's 3G pitch on 26th October, confident in the knowledge the rain couldn't ruin things this time, it might attract some hoppers along in view of the fact that Carluke Rovers never issue.

They stopped doing programmes around 18 months ago. They sometimes have a teamsheet available but not always.

SmileSmileSo a fifth long uphill walk from Carluke station for a bracketed tick it will be for me (Benburb, Forth Wanderers, Lesmahagow, and Royal Albert all previously seen borrowing the John Cummings plastic). And there's still the need to return there for a Carluke game too, of course.

I'll let the must-have-paper brigade know if anything is produced.

Linlithgow Rose Community and Gartcairn ties likely to be reversed or played at alternative venues

____________________________________________________________________________________

The real Linlithgow Rose are due away (unless hosting a Scottish Cup replay v Stirling University), so perhaps CFC would play it at Prestonfield ?

LRCFC v Pollok HAS been provisionally switched to Prestonfield.

The provisionality rests upon the outcome of the other LRFC's William Hill Scottish Cup tie at Stirling University this coming Sunday as, if that tie is drawn, the replay will be at Prestonfield on Saturday 26th, and LRCFC v Pollok will switch to Newlandsfield!

Whereas Gartcairn are saying that theirs will not need to be moved.

This season they are at a different caged 3G at the same complex, compared to the cage that wasn't deemed suitable last time, when they switched their R2 tie (also against Kilbirnie Ladeside, which Gartcairn won at Valefield) and moved their R3 tie to the Petershill plastic (lost to Lochee Utd).

Re: [PaulC] Scottish Junior Cup - draw [In reply to] Can't Post or Reply Privately

The Scottish Junior FA have revamped their website (you'd think they would do it in the summer?) and the result is that it appears to have less information than before.

It's interesting to speculate if a majority of ties (ten out of sixteen) could have programmes issued. The clubs are; Blantyre, Cambuslang, Gartcairn, Hurlford, Irvine Meadow, Larkhall Thistle, Neilston, Petershill, Pollok and Rossvale. I believe Rossvale have returned to Petershill this season. The only grounds of all these which I haven't been to yet are Gartcairn's new cage and Hurlford. As I have already mentioned elsewhere, I do not want to return to Gartcairn so soon after doing their old cage so that probably leaves just Hurlford as a possible tick that day, if the weather is fine.

Rossvale are squatting at Benburb, not Petershill.

I think there will be one or two surprise programmes up north this time round.

Except the Rossvale v Auchinleck Talbot tie, which is due a week later, since Sat 23rd is also (big) Scottish Cup day, when The 'Bot are receiving Arbroath.

Have you found any more information about which northern clubs, if any, might be issuing? I would have thought that Beith's tie at Aberdeen EE would be a possibility, but I can't find any mention on the web about a programme there, or about any of the other clubs on their websites/twitter/facebook accounts.

However, if the weather is drier than it has been of late (and the forecast suggests that this is possible) I expect that at the very least I could go to Hurlford United, where I expect there will be a programme.

Sorry, no idea. East End have done them in the past for "bigger" games. I wouldn't be surprised if Stoneywood-Parkvale do one as well.

I might well go to a game up north but the prospect of a programme will not influence my choice.

You actually pick a game based on a football decision, how quaint.

They play on the south edge of Dyce, on the edge of the airport. It's 15-20 minutes walk (for me, probably 10 for you) from Dyce station in the opposite direction to Dyce's ground.

Stoneywood-Parkvale have said there'll be a prog.
They are active on Farcebook and had already posted about Saturday's game, so I 'commented' with the Q and they quickly replied Yes. Don't shoot me if there isn't, but I hope that info is of help. Ground : Market Street, Dyce, Aberdeen, AB21 9JH. A small covered stand had been added between the first time I was there and a bracketed-tick revisit. The rest is a remarkably narrow strip between the plastic spectator barrier and the perimeter mesh fence. Tea bar in the building outside the fence. So close to the end of the airport runway that you feel like you have to duck when a plane is coming in to land. The fish & chip shop at Dyce station is a good one - they were up for the Best In Scotland prize, then it 'mysteriously' burnt down, but has been replaced by a swanky new build.
Relatively local to me, but I'll not be there - I'm off to the other end of the country on a "LeedsPhil special" pair of 17 Scotrail Club50 deal inward halves, thereby extending the (now closed) offer.
Note that if you have to stay up, there is competitive football on the Cove Rangers 3G on Sunday at 2pm - Aberdeenshire Amateur FA Select v Dundee Saturday Morning League Select, Inter League Trophy.
Be aware that the rail line is shut between Dundee and Perth on Saturday, and between Dundee and Glasgow Queen Street on Sunday. Rail replacement buses. So come up the Edinburgh side rather than via Glasgow.

Thanks Phil. I have already e-mailed two clubs and Stoneywood were one of these. They said they will be issuing, so sounds hopeful to me.

The other club I contacted (Aberdeen East End) replied to say that they weren't issuing. I thanked them anyway for replying and expressed the hope that they would defeat Beith.

I have actually walked past the Stoneywood ground on a couple of occasions before when using the airport. I assumed then that it belonged to Dyce Juniors, as I didn't know at the time that they actually play a couple of miles or so further north.
