Essex Elizabethan Trophy Finals

I think this competition started from season 1954-55 (but stand to be corrected) and ran until petering out mid-season during either 1979-80 or 1980-81 (I remember seeing Billericay beat Ford 3-0 in a first round tie during the October or November, then nothing!)

Again, like the Essex Thames-side, finding details of the finals is proving difficult as competing clubs no longer exist Brentwood & Warley, Briggs Sports, Epping Town, Rainham Town etc.

Hopefully, some can help me fill in the details?

1954-55 ?
1955-56 Dagenham 9-1 Tilbury
1956-57 ?
1957-58 Dagenham 1-0 Barking

Braintree & Crittall Athletic have played in this final. I think I know the season but will consult my records first. I have a lovely colour poster for the final somewhere....

From Redbridge FC history "Ford United won the Essex Elizabethan Cup twice in their first 4 years of existence, and again in 1971."

Ford winning in 60/61 and 61/62 would make sense with this, I think.

Just because you're paranoid, it doesn't mean they're not out to get you.

The only one I've got is:

61/62 (held over to 62/63) Brentwood 2-1 Aveley
(so not Ford Utd)

Still researching this one! Looks like the final (unfinished) season was earlier than I thought.

It lapsed halfway through the 1978-79 competition.

The only tie I saw that season was a first round tie -
Tues 5th December 1978
Billericay Town vs. Ford United 3-0 att 435
Freddie Clayden(2), Phil Whettell

more info on this competition - as supplied by the ECFA:

"first appears as affiliated in 1954/55 and last appears in 1976/77"

unsure of what affiliation rules are but it continued to 1978-79!

Grays claim to have won the ETT for 1976-77 but it seems to have been the EET they won!

Rainham Town claim to have been losing finalists for 1978-79 but I have it as being abandoned but stand to be corrected.

"Rainham Town claim to have been losing finalists for 1978-79 but I have it as being abandoned but stand to be corrected."

Could that be they lost an EET final in 1978-79, the 77-78 competition held over, rather than the 1978-79 competition final?

Not sure how or if it helps but I have a 93/94 Rainham programme that claims they were beaten finalists in both 77/8 and 78/9.

EDIT: And of course Terry King, former Rainham secretary now at Aveley, may be able to help

Keep on seeking and you will find.

From a 91/92 Rainham programme.

''In 77/78.....the final of the EET,where they went down to Basildon after a replay.Indeed,Rainham reached the final of the competition again the following season, but the match was never played.''

like a few competitions 'locally', one half of a competition is completed' the other not! Billericay only played a first round tie!

bit mis-leading by Rainham though.

Re: [Dingo] Essex Elizabethan Trophy [In reply to] Can't Post or Reply Privately

yes, Tilbury did beat Ford in the 63-64 final. Held April 29th at Chadfields, goals from Evans and Walton gave the Dockers a 2-1 win.

anyway, Rainham Town and Ford United must have their competitions mixed up as records have emerged to contradict their honours lists!

only 3 finals to sort now - and I beat they all involve long lost clubs!

1970-71 - Ford say they won it but Tilbury say they lost to Ilford at Chadfields on May 11th, not Ford - needs to be confirmed I think.

latest:
Essex Elizabethan Trophy Finals

1954-55 ?
1955-56 Dagenham 9-1 Tilbury
1956-57 ?
1957-58 Dagenham 1-0 Barking
1958-59 Briggs Sports 3-0 Barking
1959-60 Ford United 3-0 Tilbury
1960-61 Ford United 3-2 Hornchurch
1961-62 Brentwood & Warley 2-1 Aveley
1962-63 Hornchurch 2-0 Ford United
1963-64 Tilbury 2-1 Ford United
1964-65 Rainham Town 2-1 Tilbury
1965-66 Ilford 1-0 Grays Athletic
1966-67 Barking 4-1 Dagenham
1967-68 Rainham Town 2-1 Tilbury
1968-69 Tilbury 2-0 Braintree & Crittall Athletic
1969-70 Aveley 3-1 Ilford
1970-71 Ilford 3-2 Tilbury to be confirmed
1971-72 Hornchurch 2-0 Aveley
1972-73 Aveley 1-0 Hornchurch
1973-74 competition not completed due to power shortages
1974-75 Ilford 6-1 Hornchurch
1975-76 ? beat Rainham Town
1976-77 Grays Athletic 2-1 Woodford Town
1977-78 Basildon United 1-1 Rainham Town
Re-play Basildon United 4-0 Rainham Town
1978-79 Competition not completed. Rainham Town had reached the final but the other half of the draw was still at the 2nd round stage.

Sorry, when I said ''I'm not sure its 100% right, but its still very good'',I meant the whole history page, not that particular 63/64 fact.

Some of the other season's/final appearance's are off a little.

that's ok - maybe me just interpreting incorrectly.

yes, it maybe done by memory and that they just have their seasons mixed up - or cups! I found the same thing in the Essex Thames-side.

anyway, just three finals to sort, along with confirming whether it was Ford or Ilford in the 70-71 final.
