Despite the M25 delaying us for the best part of an hour the lad and I arrived at the ground at 14:30, enough time to have something to eat and grab a cup of tea before taking our seats in the stand which gave us an excellent view of the action. As has been well documented on here Basingstoke's time at the Camrose is due to come to an end at this season's close, and in my view those still to visit will be missing out on a treat if they don't make the journey here.
This was an entertaining game between two sides playing good football. The homesters were apparently missing around five of their regular first team players and several of their number looked quite young in comparison to their opponents. Yet over the ninety minutes the undoing of Basingstoke was due to not to the inexperience of those on the pitch but rather the fact that Frome defended well throughout whereas they did not.
An unfortunate own goal early on gave Frome the lead and the afforementioned defensive frailties of Basingstoke led to the second. A penalty reduced the arrears before Frome added a third, again partly due to individual errors. For we neutrals though this was a very decent match and well worth the visit.
The roads behaved themselves on the return journey and we were back indoors by 19:30.
